I though [censored] was pretty good all around. Agree on poor signing though. using asile no bay is misleading as each 'bay' is obviously borded by different aisles.

My mate and i paid top dollar for our seast ($190 plus) and were right at the very back of level i. Couldn't believe it but seats were under an overhang, which i knew they would be as i had looked at the virtual ground thingo.

But i assumed there would be no restriction on viewing. Was very disappointed there was pill box effect and you would lose track of the ball when kicked high. They also had some square things  hanging off the edge of the overhang which blocked the view.

Most bizarre of all was that you could not see the score board. At all! i mean this is brand new 1 billion dollar stadium.

The saving grace was that we were in the shade. It was hot and the sun sharp and the demons fans in front om looked as if they were cooking. Given how bad the game was i at least pleased i didn't roast.

Another strange thing was entry. We just filed in with hundreds of other through an open gate and someone had hand scanner. Had a bag but there was only one guys searching and people were  just flowing past him, as i did. Crazy

Not being able to see the scoreboard was surely a blessing, Bin.

Appalling stadium given the $$ spent on it

Aisle numbering for seats is kindergarten mistake.

Complete shortage of food and drink facilities

concourse areas as bad as Subiaco was

Agree catering set up is not yet up to par.

Didn't like the look of the hot dogs, thought "Ah ha premium German hot dog - must be a bratwurst with sauerkraut and mustard".

Sucked in, same hot dog just with mustard and I think it was about $4 more

Plenty of beer though, place is a booze barn.

have they made use of the external concourse (outside the stadium) for bars and seating area etc like the Adelaide oval.

The Perth weather would make for a lovely venue

Why?

I'm with Jim.

It's just advertising and the name doesn't reflect which ground it is. And it changes all the time.

Subiaco oval is that ground in Subiaco, The SCG that one in Sydney and Kardinia Park is that ground in Geelong. If you told me you'd been to a game at Baytec Stadium I'd say Where? Or Simonds? Or Skilled? Or GMHBA? Or Shell? Note - all those are names for Kardinia Park.

I'm happy to call the new Perth Stadium either Burswood or Perth. Everyone will know what I'm talking about.

Paid $200 bucks t0 get roasted in Perth midday sun.  Joke time slot, Friday night would have been magnificent.

Agree with time slot.

Friday night in Perth would give whomever won more time to get to Melbourne ..... Saturday arvo, or night, would still give that winner a full week, in their how town.

Poor planning by AFL HQ ... but who is surprised about that after all?

Yes it was a terrible time slot. Friday night would have been better but Richmond as minor premiers got that one and the extra day off. The AFL should have had the flexibility to realize a week earlier that the winner in Perth would have to travel either home or to the GF and Richmond or Collingwood would only have to walk across the road and didn't really need the extra day rest. It should have been Friday night in Perth and Saturday at the G at the same time and atmosphere as the GF.

Apparently Saturday night was considered but was rejected as that would have meant Melbourne staying in Perth overnight or travelling on a body disruptive post midnight number. Having a 1630ish finish allowed an evening flight back landing before midnight.

Got to agree with Eddie here.  No such 'rule', just the AFL making it up as they go along once again.

Going forward I would like to see a Sunday night game during the home and away.

Perth at a 6pm kick off could work well both for those attending the game and for TV viewing back in the East.

It would be great if on FTA if even on their second channel.

That would give four possible night slots across the weekend.

Unless one has Foxtel you can almost forget seeing an interstate team play on FTA in Melbourne which really doesn't help the feeling of a national competition.

The Optus Oval staff over watered the grass. The Weagles knew and wore longer studs. We wore what we had for training and kept slipping. It is blatant cheating by The Eagles supporting staff but probably not actionable. The AFL should investigate though.

I dunno, as a teenager growing up outside of Victoria, I had no idea where “Waverley” was. I don’t know where Burswood is either other than being able to infer it’s in Perth from your post, and my map doesn’t show any towns called “‘Gabba”. Those names are all just as meaningless to me than if they were called Fred Flintstone Stadium.

Gabba = Woolongabba the suburb in which the stadium is located

My favorite is of course the WACA

How does it work well for those attending. Game finishes near 9pm and many Dockers and Meth Coast fans live in the outer suburbs or travel from regional WA.

Not to mention those taking kids have to get them up for school Monday morning

no different to the Thursday nights which are part of the mainstream these days

And Thursday night is not liked by the fans attending for the reasons I mentioned

Most Country supporters don't travel to Thursday games

I’d be more inclined to go to a Thursday night game than a Sunday night. Works always harder to get up to on a Monday opposed to a Friday.

I'll disagree. Because those names don't change. The 'Gabba (other than being in suburb Woolongabba) has been known as that for decades. And will always be in Woolongabba. Waverley and Burswood are easy to find suburbs and unlikely to be renamed. Changing stadium names from year to year is rubbish.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
