Casey Demons v Geelong VFL

Featured Replies

At the ground, nice night for footy, bit chilly.

Will update the team list when I work out who is and isn’t playing

What is mysterious about it?  Both Maynard and King are injured, which the club have reported on.  Filipovic is possibly dropped while the other two aren't on our list.

I don't know what is mysterious about that.

What are their injuries wise? I haven't heard.

Jade Rawlings said 12 listed players are playing tonight, and from what I could see in the warmup they are

Stretch, Frost, Pedo, JKH, Johnstone, T.Smith, J.Smith, Keilty, Petty, Baker and I believe I saw both Bugg and Balic out there

Meaning Garlett and Wagner are the carryovers

Makes sence pointless to drop him then not play him in VFL

I hope Dion can get his act together; needs to string some good games together to avoid being on the chopping block at the end of the year.  Does not seem close to a senior call up.

Not sure what the go is with Filipovic, trained this morning with the AFL group and was still doing ruck craft with Greg Stafford and Crossy when I left, no sign of an injury at all, did every drill, although only went for 45 mins

20 mins into the first quarter Geelong all over it but have only kicked 1-2-8 to Casey 1 behind

Geelong must be killing us in uncontested possessions they seem to be everywhere and Casey are against a small breeze

Pedo just marked 25 meteres but got the 50 m penalty

Quarter time Geelong 3-3-21 to Casey 1-1-7

Casey’s pressure better but Geelong just too good.

11 mins into the 2nd quarter Geelong 4-3-27 to Casey 1-1-7

Quick transition and Dion gets easily beaten out the back in a one on one and Geelong kick another goal

10 mins into the 3rd quarter Geelong still dominate 8-7-55 to Casey’s 3-3-21

Nothing of note to really speak of the Melbourne listed, most are getting dominated by their opponents

Keilty has it out the back but fumbled the mark and it turned into a Geelong goal :(

Is it Tim or Joel who is getting all the possessions?

Both getting plenty of the ball

Casey get another goal through a free to Baker he’s got 2 after moving forward Geelong 10-8-68 to Casey 5-4-34

Still another half yet, we can level the scores by then?

Err, another qtr left unfortunately.

3/4 time Geelong 11-8-74 to Casey 5-4-34

Casey haven’t been horrible it’s just Geelong have been all over them.

As for the MFC listed, Stretch okay but not good disposals, Frost has been quiet as had been Petty. Keilty’s made mistakes but was better that quarter. Bugg has gone missing, JKH has barely touched it. Baker been good, Garlett quiet but had a number of important touches, Pedo okay but no one can take a mark. Both Smiths have been decent, Dion Johnstone has done nothing.

As I recall didn’t they do that late last season — dropped due to poor form, didn’t play VFL, then resurrected the following week.  Didn’t make much sense at all.

Same as the senior side, take out the better leaders, and flumx'd.

We lack senior expertise, across the list.

I hope Lewis retires from AFL end of season, and becomes a playing assistant coach with Casey Demons, as well as an assistant coach with Melbourne.

Will be delisted at the end of the year.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

When looking back at the disastrous end to the game, I find it a waste of time to concentrate on the final few moments when utter confusion reigned. Forget the 6-6-6 mess, the failure to mark the most dangerous man on the field, the inability to seal the game when opportunities presented themselves to Clayton Oliver, Harry Petty and Charlie Spargo, the vision of match winning players of recent weeks in Kozzy Pickett and Jake Melksham spending helpless minutes on the interchange bench and the powerlessness of seizing the opportunity to slow the tempo of the game down in those final moments.

  • CASEY: Sandringham

The Casey Demons rebounded from a sluggish start to manufacture a decisive win against Sandringham in the final showdown, culminating a quarter century of intense rivalry between the fluctuating alignments of teams affiliated with AFL clubs Melbourne and St Kilda, as the Saints and the Zebras prepare to forge independent paths in 2026. After conceding three of the first four goals of the match, the Demons went on a goal kicking rampage instigated by the winning ruck combination of Tom Campbell with 26 hitouts, 26 disposals and 13 clearances and his apprentice Will Verrall who contributed 20 hitouts. This gave first use of the ball to the likes of Jack Billings, Bayley Laurie, Riley Bonner and Koltyn Tholstrup who was impressive early. By the first break they had added seven goals and took a strong grip on the game. The Demons were well served up forward early by Mitch Hardie and, as the game progressed, Harry Sharp proved a menace with a five goal performance. Emerging young forwards Matthew Jefferson and Luker Kentfield kicked two each but the former let himself down with some poor kicking for goal.
Young draft talent Will Duursma showed the depth of his talent and looks well out of reach for Melbourne this year. Kalani White was used sparingly and had a brief but uneventful stint in the ruck.

The Demons return to the scene of the crime on Saturday to face the wooden spooners the Eagles at the Docklands. Who comes in and who goes out? Like moving deck chairs on the Titanic.

It's Game Day and there are only 5 games to go. Can the Demons find some consistency and form as they stagger towards the finish line of another uninspiring season?
