huh?  coburg (and frankston) are patently not vfl-standard clubs

it is just impossible to draw definitive indications of form (other than some aspects) from such games 

let's see how weids goes against a vfl level side such as werribee this week

From what I observed PD he moved well. I might have even posted during the match that he crumbed a ball of the deck and instinctively used his left foot and hit a teammate in the goal square with a 40 metre bullet of a pass. If he possesses traits like this he might just develop nicely.

As for his set shots ?  I too wish we saw how he got them.  He had 2 free kicks, but we don't know if they're from them.  He could have got them when he was rucking, or in the F50.  He also took 4 contested marks, which was the most taken by any player for the day, so they could have come from those, or they could have been from a mark on the lead.  He only took one uncontested mark for the day, so only one would have come from a lead - if at all.  Tim Smith took 3 contested marks, which was the second most on the ground.

I'm not so interested in his pressure acts.  I'll let the coaches worry or coach that side of things.  I'm interested in his size.  Is he noticeably bigger in person.  I believe he is.  How was he moving ?  Does he look more agile now his ankles are finally right ?  What was his speed like ?  How did he compete in the contest ?  Was he aggressive ?   

Those aspects interest me far more, because they'll tell me whether he has AFL attributes.  I didn't like the way he was moving last year.  If that's markedly better I'm excited for what lies ahead.

Valid question, it was more in relation to the quality of the opposition and playing against what appeared to be smaller opponents in an extremely open forward line. 

I agree his movement was/is a major issue and have my fingers crossed for a significant improvement in this area.

It's not form... it's just one game.

Lets see him build a platform of good games.   One that he can launch from, & re-land on, if need be.

It could well be @DV8, it was moments like that where one goes “wow, I wasn’t expecting that”.

The other big “wow” was Petty, but still early days for him.

... and the same WoW over this club, the way it's finally developing it's players, to become the best they cab be... and they are starting to become, something,,, better then we were before.  better than at least 27 years.

 

And we are just at the lower rungs of our development, as a club, as a list, and our players individually.

 

I am so glad the club has announced progress towards a training facility, where the whole lot of this place can come together in unison.

That might have been Casey's intention PD. But I think Coburg had the same plan. His opponent was over him like a rash in the first half.

You'd best listen to the podcast and hear how he was given a "new role" and that he didn't use his ball getting instincts early, because he was too focussed on stopping his opponent.  It was said he got the balance right after quarter time.

It was clear who the tagger was, Old.

Interesting, I saw Gus getting held onto off the ball and at stoppages early in the game a couple of times and I automatically thought he was the one getting tagged.

He's a failed key forward who has never kicked more than 3 goals in a game.  And he hasn't done that often.

When he's used in the ruck he can be a very effective "follower", but with Gawn in the team we don't need him for that.

Take up football.

PS if he asked me I'd happily give him my assessment.  I don't see it happening.

I don't mind the alternative, of Oliver going head to head with Mitchell. I'd back Oliver's tenacity, for sure.  If he keeps Mitchell on a tight leash.

Yep, it's who has more damage. Their pace on the outside (if Mitchell is allowed to release them) could be very damaging. Clarry is a great tackler though.

Thats what i''m thinking Re the leash.

It would mean Clarry has to play without as much freedom and creativity, with other stuff a must to focus on. I'm not sure how that would effect his game?

Bernie is accustomed to the role, but maybe O'Meara is more his type of opponent?  O'Meara would also have to cover Bernie, when he has the ball.

Maybe the buggster is the key, to bother Mitchell ?

Maybe that's why they apparently used Angus to tag in the VFL... to see IF he can be a tagger?

I'm not convinced Re Angus yet, for these match-ups.

I'd prefer Dion in, to utilise around the Hawks smalls.
