Thats what i''m thinking Re the leash.

It would mean Clarry has to play without as much freedom and creativity, with other stuff a must to focus on. I'm not sure how that would effect his game?

Bernie is accustomed to the role, but maybe O'Meara is more his type of opponent?  O'Meara would also have to cover Bernie, when he has the ball.

Maybe the buggster is the key, to bother Mitchell ?

...

would you use Angus on O'Meara?

Maybe that's why they apparently used Angus to tag in the VFL... to see IF he can be a tagger?

I'm not convinced Re Angus yet, for these match-ups.

I'd prefer Dion in, to utilise around the Hawks smalls.

I wouldn't tag O'Meara. 1) he's overrated. 2) we should back in our own mids. 3) we can't tag two of their mids and play our own game.

Tag doesn't mean purely negate.   We can win the ball against O'Meara and use it creatively.  Maybe you'd prefer the 'runwith' term?

I just mean paying them close attention keep them on the leash.  And hurt them back the other way.

Too many these days just run free to create whatever they can.

Fair enough. And I wouldn't bother tagging O'Meara. He's not as good as everyone thinks he is.

I'd make him accountable and try to exploit him going back the other way.

The Clarkson mantra is backing his players to win the stoppages. He rarely tags.

It's a similar philosophy that I believe Goodwin and Roos employ(ed). Back in your guys to win their position.

I'd play a defensive forward or wingman on Smith though. Harmed is the guy, I reckon. He can definitely hurt Smith going back the other way and his tank is good enough to stay with him.

Pedo has played commendably for us for quite a few years now, as most people observe. He is a consistent asset to the team and many of the good results of the past. To say that '... he can only play as an on-ball short ruckman to be effective ... ' is very wrong. Try saying that to his face.

Seems like the coach agrees with me.

Pedersen's supporters continue to not get it.  Pedersen not even on the extended bench and Weideman is.

As it should be.

    TRAINING: Friday 28th February 2025

A couple of Demonland Trackwatchers headed down to Gosch's Paddock to bring you their observations from today's training session before the Demons head off to Perth for their final Practice Match. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Beautiful morning, not much wind, more than a couple of dozen spectators.  The players were up and about, boisterous and having fun. One of their last drills were three teams competing in a hard at it, handball game in a small area. Goody

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
