There is actually a curtain raiser for today’s game starting at 11:05am,  u18 academy Vs Kangaroos VFL.  There is almost on no info on this game on the internet so they are keeping it low key but a good chance to see the top 30 players run around the G against AFL listed players. Looking forward to seeing some of the highly touted SA boys.

Tom Medhat from West Perth is one who's going to move up the draft boards. Played most of his juniors as key position with stints on the ball. Now in his draft year being used on the ball really good kid who at 191cm showing endurance and ability to find and use the ball well is going to start attracting attention.

Adrian Hickmotts boys (Liam & Will) and Michael Priors boy (Jaxon) also showing plenty from Perths northern suburbs.

Yes, they do seem to be keeping a low profile. Fox Footy was advertising a live showing earlier in the week but I don’t think it eventuated.

Are there any reports anywhere (not that they’re going to mean much to MFC fans at this point in time, given that our first choice in this year’s draft is likely to be close to 40 (in the absence of a brilliant trade).

Callum Twomey has tweeted the result of the game and some stats.

NAB AFL Academy 17.12.114 to North Melbourne VFL 10.11.71.

That’s a comprehensive victory although it has to be added that North (who had a bye at the weekend) hasn’t previously fielded a stand alone team in the current incarnation of the VFL.

Stats - Walsh (22 disp, 1 goal), West (16, 9 tackles), Jones (15 disp).

Just quietly because I don’t want to put this young man under any pressure but congratulations to Tiernan Stynes (son of Jim) on making the South Metro Junior Football League Under 13 Boys Interleague squad.

And the Demons continue to be mentioned as a strong chance to secure another famous son from two different sports, basketball and tennis  - Austin Bradke as a Category B prospect.

Uncle Bitter and I sat behind the Stynes family at the G a couple of weeks ago. Lovely family. Tiernan is tall and skinny like a lot of kids his age. Looks athletic, big mitts on him. I think Brian Stynes' kids might have been there as well, but not sure about that. All very vocal Demon supporters, almost put BBO to shame

Well done WJ that was a great pick-up.........!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

4 quality mids likely to be available to the Dees if we maintain a pick around 26/27.

Mitch Riordan STINGRAYS  quality skilled midfielder. Though likely top 15-17

Xavier O’Halloran JETS great inside leader type mid. Again could go around 20.

Xavier Duursma POWER I hope the Dees get this kid. Son of Jamie. Knows where the footy is and gets it. Probably will be there around 25.

Smokie remain young Hudson Garoni from the Bushrangers.  Goalkicking key forward

Isaac Conway was very impressive as a midfielder against Casey today. Classy and mature body. At 23, maybe he’ll get a look in on a rookie list. Has the talent IMO.

I believe that Xavier is nephew of Jamie.

Sorry the 4th quality mid was South Australian Luke Valente. Solid build. Good pace. 183cm. Skilled on both wings. Tackles well.  Captain for SA under 18s in 2018. Whilst not as flashy as a few teammates, Valente is the real deal. At pick 25-28, he would be an absolute steal.

Isaac Conway's sister starred for the Brisbane Lions women this season. He comes from the same junior club as the Wagner brothers.

He was well known as a high quality character at Sandgate going through losing his mother mid-season in his U17s.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #42 Aidan Johnson

The VFL premiership player was recruited from Werribee to alleviate Melbourne’s forward line woes and give a chop out in the ruck, but he managed only five senior matches in his first season at the club. At times, he was a dominant force at VFL level.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #44 Luker Kentfield

An exciting young key forward, Kentfield was selected in the 2024 mid-season draft but has yet to make his AFL debut. He was sidelined by a severe bout of pneumonia over the summer, which consequently limited his pre-season. Upon his return a month into the season, he commenced in defence but ultimately impressed with his progress at Casey, particularly in the latter part of the season as a strong marking goal kicking forward.

  • AFLW REPORT: West Coast

Melbourne’s response to last week’s heartbreak was emphatic, as the Demons delivered a statement win over West Coast at a windswept Casey Fields. All of the pre-match hype surrounded the coach’s box matchup of Mick Stinear up against his apprentice, Daisy Pearce along with the gloomy weather forecast. In the end, it was less about tactical chess and more about Melbourne’s relentless execution. With rain looming, the DeeArmy and early birds snapped up the best undercover viewing spots.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: West Coast

Epic battle alert.  This Sunday, Casey Fields hosts a coach’s showdown pitting the wits of the master Mick Stinear (92 games, 71.7% win rate) against his protégé Daisy Pearce (16 games, 43.8%). Still early in her coaching journey, Daisy’s record doesn’t yet reflect her impact — but she’s already the best-performed coach at West Coast.Dais’ is mythic.  Like Katniss Everdeen, everyone either wants to kiss her, kill her (sporting metaphor) or be her.  Toothers Daisy Pearce is a role model, someone admired for their heart, humility and humour.

  • AFLW REPORT: Port Adelaide

Well, that was a shock. The Demons 4-game unbeaten run came to a grinding halt in a tense, scrappy affair at the sunny, windy Alberton Oval, with the Power holding on for a 2-point win. The Dees had their chances—plenty of them—but couldn't convert when it mattered most. Port’s tackling pressure rattled the Dees, triggering a fumble frenzy and surprising lack of composure from seasoned players.
