The players from our AFLW team well represtented:

• Meg Downie and Kate Hore (St Kilda Sharks) in the elimination final.
• Mel Hickey, Elise O’Dea, Karen Paxman, Daisy Pearce and Lauren Pearce (Darebin) and Laura Duryea (Diamond Creek) will play in the qualifying final.

Great finals experience for them for when the Dees feature in the 'Big League' finals. 

Think I will be barracking for The Sharks and Darebin

Will be keenly watching how the Dees players/teams progress through the finals.

Good luck to the three teams.

MFC's profile of Lauren doesn't suggest a family connection, so I assume they aren't but don't really know.

VFLW Grand Final is telecast today on Ch7 from 11.30.  Game starts at 12.00.  Held at Etihad as the lead up game to the VFL men's Grand Final.

"Melbourne will have a presence in this clash, with Laura Duryea (Diamond Creek), plus Mel Hickey, Elise O’Dea, Karen Paxman, Daisy Pearce and Lauren Pearce (Darebin Falcons) set to feature in the Grand Final. New coaching panel member Jane Lange is also coach of Darebin".

With that representation, if the Fa;cpms win will it qualify as another Demons Premiership?  Yeah, I know, clutching at straws...

Will be barracking for the Falcons!

Daisy and her disciples did it again - a 5 peat run of flags. 

Daisy has elite kicking skills and we are fortunate to have her, Paxman and others in our AFLW Demons team.

Paxman was in everything!

Not looking forward to us coming up against Brennan for the Bulldogs next year- hard to stop.

Are you going to switch allegiance to Casey next year, Lucifer? I'm a bit undecided!

I'm trying really hard to give it a go but the standard is just appalling.

Hopefully the standard will improve over the next few years.

I don't know.  I just read that Daisy is unlikely to line up for Casey as she lives in Bendigo.  But Darebin's future is up in the air as well. 

Like you I'm undecide and will let it play out for a bit.

That final was of teams made up from volunteers.

The AFLW comp improved out of sight from the first game to the finals series.  Also, they don't kick as far as the men and a game is only 80 min vs AFL 120 min so the scoring will always be lower in the women's comp.

AFLW will get better each year.  Its worth hanging in there.

I'm sure this is a very common impression!

But at some point (for me at least) it sort of shifted. I got less caught up with the scoreline and comparisons with the professional men and more absorbed by the passion, courage and hunger for the game. It's often quite a scrap - well, I spose it often is in finals anyway - but that just makes the goals all the more exciting to me.

And after you watch a group of players for a while, you start to see individuals improving before your eyes, in themselves and in their connection with their teammates. That's something I enjoy in the men's game as well, among the young players, but it's even more notable with the women, many of whom didn't have that crucial Auskick to seniors continuity.

Looking forward to the future at both levels!

On teenager Chloe Molloy:

"The teen footy gun copped a brutal blow to the head late in the third quarter...Molloy instantly hit the deck after the blow...But instead of leaving the field, Molloy took her free kick and slotted one in through the sticks to score her team’s first goal of the match".

An incredible achievement which drew this tweet from Ben Brown: One of the toughest acts I've seen on a footy field @chloemollloy - inspirational. Hoping the injury isn't too bad! 

In a true show of courage she came back playing out the game with one arm.

She is touted as a top 3 pick in the upcoming AFLW draft.
