What's your best combined Melbourne team from the players that you've seen?

Featured Replies

B - Alan Johnson, Sean Wight, Greame Yeats
HB - Brett Lovett, Anthony Ingerson, Adem Yze
C - Stephen Tingay, Brian Wilson, Robert Flower
HF- Gerard Healy,  David Schwarz, Garry Lyon
F - Allen Jakovich, David Neitz, Jeff Farmer
R - Jim Stynes, Nathan Jones, Todd Viney,
IN - Steven Stretch, Glenn Lovett, Brad Green, Jeff White

Throws up all kinds of combinations, this one.

So for the entertainment value I have picked a side with characters, flair and ability.

It's not conventional but would be a lot of fun to watch :

B    A Johnson      Biffin           Whelan

HB  Don Williams  Neitz           Hardeman

C    Flower            Wells          Alves

HB  Robbo            Schwarter   Hassa Mann

F    Davey             Jakovich     Lyon

R   O'Dwyer           Barassi      Todd Viney

Inter      Jurrah  Yeats  Gerard Healy  The Wiz  and allowing myself 3 more - Jimmy Grinter Stinger

Seen them all play. Loved them all. It's not a balanced side but it isn't really meant to be

WHELAN         WIGHT              FRAWLEY

LOVETT           NEITZ               S.FEBEY

TINGAY            T.VINEY             YZE

LYON               SCHWARTZ       DAVEY

FARMER          JAKOVICH          ROBERTSON

STYNES           MCDONALD       JONES

WHITE             BRUCE              JOHNSTONE          J.VINEY

(Gee... it's not a great team for 25 years worth...)

Missed many of the greats and only going from 1980 to present

B:        Ingerson, Hughes, Whelan

HB:      G.Lovett, Wight, Grinter

Prymke would be center-half-back in my 'what could have been' team.

Had so much potential before injury robbed him of a great career.

Would not work in todays 2 way game, in fact it would be murdered,  but by god there is some talent there

If I had my way I'd have the sport played like it was pre flooding and the press.  Forwards playing forward and backmen playing back.  Real wingmen and without the eye-sore of regularly having an abundance of midfielders all scrambling for the ball.  But hey, that can't happen unless the rotations are scaled right back.  It's not ice-hockey.

My forward line is a trifle top-heavy but 'elusive-qualities' abound.  Apart from Neitz, the other 5 were all good on the ground.  Schwartz before he did those knees could get about.

Nobody has mentioned Greg Healy.

By no means a superstar, but he played under Northey as our Capt. and never shirked an issue.

A mark and goal he took against Whorethorn in the '90 Elimination Final was actually scary. But he held the mark and kicked straight.

Remember it well

Probably my favourite day at the Footy since the 1964 Grand Final

Greg Healys mark and goal is still firmly in my memory  big Strawb played a beauty too that day

I'd just played in a NSW Superrules side that had defeated Queensland for the first time that morning on the Junction Oval

Life doesn't get much better :-)

Certainly agree about being a good Captain

right up there with Alves  and Neitz as giving everything for the club every week

think all our captains have been good even the low key ones like Hassa and Frank Davis

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
