Could be a huge value deal if McCarthy can get back to his best form.

do they now move pick 33 on to the Hawks for Brad Hill?

Fantastic deal for the Dockers IMO. Top 10 are fairly even this year apparently.

Much the same with Deledio, who is on $800K.  Richmond want to free up cap-space and see Deledio, who plays as a 30 year old next year, as expendable in their list revamp.

My question is, how the hell does Geelong afford his salary?

Geelong and Hawthorn's salary caps are like Mary Poppins bag.

Fremantle will be laughing with that one.
I can't be bothered with the maths, but I do wonder if that means GWS will need to bulk up later picks for points again. AKA, Dees have a look in for a pick upgrade.

Wouldn't surprise me if the Tigers paid a small part of his salary to get him off their books.  Not sure how much that would be, but it's happened before.

I still don't think he is the player to get them a flag though, and they're not only putting lots of their eggs in this basket, but it continues to show that their ability to develop younger players and bring them through is not what it used to be.

The cats have signalled they will struggle to get this guys in under their salary cap.

There are suggestions that Josh Caddy might be Offloaded.

I find this interesting as when they recruited him a couple of years ago I thought they were getting an average player.

This was in disagreement to the majority on Demonland who were very disappointed we could not get him..

Here we are a couple of years down the track and he has been very average at Geelong and they are looking to offload him.

Wow, GWS must be very very keen on a specific draftee at #3.

The developers have left the building?

Good deal for Freo, too.  They get McCarthy, albeit a year late, and they stay inside the first round while adding at least one other pick of value that may help them get Brad Hill from the Hawks.

I will be interested to see how McCarthy goes after a year out of the game and being the number one target in a forward line.

They also don't have a lot of cap or list room, so they'd much prefer one higher pick than various picks.

I believe the rules have changed for this year. You can only bring the same number of picks to the draft a spots you have on the list. Thus there is no more bulking up on late picks.

Once again Old, you show impeccable judgement.

Could be, plus the loss of a host of veterans who set the standard and took the heat of them have now either left or retired.  It makes a big difference.

The Cats are, if they land both Deledio and Tuohy, about to add 6 experienced players in 2 years, which shows they have little faith in the kids coming through.

Not sure you can label him an "average player" if he's the required trade for a very good player...

Rumour is they want to get pick 5 from Carlton for Marchbank and on-trade 3 and 5 to the Dons for pick #1 Not sure the dons want that but 2 top 5 picks vs pick 1 its a hell of a choice.

I would not call either of the two players concerned "Very Good" IMO they are average players in poor teams.

If Caddy was as good as touted a couple of years ago they would not be entertaining  offloading him for a couple of average players.

Considering Wells turns 32 at the start of next year, I can't see his body getting any better.

he could always visit steven danks' anti-ageing clinic

Average player is probably a little harsh, but he certainly hasn't set the world alight.  He is still young enough that the Tigers believe there is still lots of improvement left in him over the coming years.

Plus, without picks, I'm not sure who else they would be keen on.  They don't want Motlop and there is little else that would excite the Tigers.  If they want to offload him and free up cap room while getting Caddy in return, then they may take it and run.

Fair enough mate! I do get where you're coming from, you're a "play it safe" man. I'm just a fan of O'Meara in full flight.

I would definitely do that if I were the Bombers recruiting team.

They missed a whole draft so taking two top 10 picks instead of one would be gold for them.

And it would work for GWS as well since they have a million first rounders.

Yeah it's that trade off of getting a player who doesn't have as high a ceiling but will be cheaper and around a lot longer I guess.

Not smitten with the kittens? I do like Nakia, however have to be cautious how to express that - if too ostentatious then it could easily be misconstrued.

  • PREVIEW: Collingwood

Way back in March we contemplated the possibility of a Demon resurgence after Simon Goodwin’s summer of love. Many issues at the club had seemingly been addressed, key players were returning from injury and a brand new day was about to dawn. We imagined the coach pulling a rabbit out of a hat. The team would roar up the charts, push aside every opponent and make its way to a Grand Final ending in ultimate triumph with Goody and Max holding the premiership cup aloft under a shower of red and blue ticker tape.

We’re back! That was fun. The Mighty Dees’ Season 10 campaign is off toa flying start with a commanding 48-point winover the Western Bulldogs, retaining the Hampson-Hardeman Cup in style. After a hard-fought first half in slippery conditions, the Dees came out in the second half and showcased their trademark superior class, piling on four goals in the third termand never looked back.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
