Not to spoil the surprise: Kent, Hogan, Petracca, Viney and everyone's under appreciated favourite... J.Hunt.

If Poorish is in there surely Oliver should've been.

You'd think so, wouldn't you?

It's an interesting exercise overall though.  There's a few in there I just don't know anything about.  You can put together a pretty good side though.

Brayshaw stiff as well.

We could have had Wines, we made a very early bid on Mills, Weitering grew up supporting us, and we also attempted to manoeuvre our way to pick up Lever, before Adelaide pounced.

Footy gods, why do you hate us so????

Excuse my ignorance, but is that a side you've picked, or the one that was actually picked?

This was my attempt.  I don't know when they announce the official one.  :P

No worries.  I'll refrain from discussion about the omission of Hogan for Peter Wright...

Deliberate.  Hogan's yips have become a real issue.  I couldn't have him and Daniher in the same side with both of them kicking so badly.  Plus Wright can switch with Grundy in the ruck.

I am not at all offended by alternate opinions.  I will say that they require one of the interchange spots to go to a defender, hence Byrne-Jones getting a gig.  Hogan, as I said above, I left out because of his inability to hit the side of a barn with his kicking lately (possibly unfair given that Daniher is also having issues).  Petracca is too inconsistent right now and like Hogan has to sort out his goal-kicking.  As brilliant as he can be he is still only getting a dozen or so touches a game.

Some interesting selections in the squad... Kolojashnij (Geelong), Dunstan, Matt Crouch, Crisp and Sicily all stand out to me as being well off the pace of the others there.

Hogan might have to sort out his goal-kicking (although Daniher's is worse imo), but he's averaged more goals per game than both Daniher and Wright this season.

Was surprised Kent got named, but then compared his stats this season to others named and he actually stacks up pretty well.

Yeah, I had a look on Footywire and was a bit surprised at how well he stacks up.y thinking may have been tainted by his poor form from the last month.

Wright deserves the spot more than than Hogan so far this year

That list of forwards would destroy any team that had to pick from that list of backmen. Is this indicative of a shortage of quality tall backmen or are they just selecting the fast flashy ones?

In a way I'm glad he wasn't picked. He seems like someone that would use it to spur him on.

Was this concept team carried out at the end of last year?

Surely he would've been in it if so. Injury has kept him out of calculations this year you would think.

  • REPORT: Geelong

I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

  • PREGAME: Essendon

Facing the very real and daunting prospect of starting the season with five straight losses, the Demons head to South Australia for the annual Gather Round, where they’ll take on the Bombers in search of their first win of the year. Who comes in, and who comes out?

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?

  • POSTGAME: Geelong

The Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, falling to 0–4 after a more spirited showing against the Cats at Kardinia Park. Despite the improved effort, they went down by 39 points, and the road ahead is looking increasingly grim.
