A Team with talent not maturity

I'm excited and happy with our progress in 2016, not that flat about finals because simply we don't deserve to be in the 8.  Our club now has talent and some talent from unexpected areas.  Jayden Hunt to me is the surprise of the year, he can be anything this kid.  We have Oliver, Petracca, Weideman, Brayshaw, and another surprise in OMac.

another 18 months into these guys along with our other best listed players, the club must be expecting to go deep into finals by 2018.

we do have the talent...we don't have maturity in the cranium department.  My biggest disappointment is falling to teams such as Essendon, Carlton and St Kilda.  We win 3 out if those 4 games we play finals. Our biggest archilles is getting the head right for games against teams we are expected to beat.  This is the challenge for 2017, this club is expected to play finals next year and they must get their heads in the right place to take the next step.  The talent is there, maturity must be developed ASAP.

Finally, Proud of the club this year, but the bar is set, and next year It's on.  Finals appearance expected or it's a fail next season.

Good post, S. I agree that it's the mental that we must work on and develop next year. Having predicted 10-12 wins at the end of last season, I'm predicting 12-14 wins next year, which should get us finals.

If even start to beat the teams we should beat, we'll get 14 quite easily. That's the goal for 2017. By 2018, I agree, we should be challenging and I don't mean for the 8, but for the big one.

Awkwardly, Bernie Vince was a key 'offender' in the immature decisions and lack of awareness on sunday.

But at least in general we can see the problem and can have some confidence in the coaching group to work on it.

My big obsession over the off season will be wanting to see the club drilling players on forming spontaneous small units working together. I hate the sight of one player going 'ooh, I'll take this on' and others around them just thinking 'ooh, he's taking it on, good luck to him!'.

Tiredness makes me childish, playful & fun at heart.  Focus is a victim of tiredness.

One hundred percent Soidee. Nailed it.

Although the elephant in the room is our magnificent run with injuries this year. Can it continue?

Veteran Demonland Trackwatchers Kev Martin, Slartibartfast & Demon Wheels were on hand at Gosch's Paddock to kick off the official first training session for the 1st to 4th year players with a few elder statesmen in attendance as well. 2024 Player Reviews: #1 Steven May

The years are rolling by but May continued to be rock solid in a key defensive position despite some injury concerns. He showed great resilience in coming back from a nasty rib injury and is expected to continue in that role for another couple of seasons. 2024 Player Reviews: #4 Judd McVee

It was another strong season from McVee who spent most of his time mainly at half back but he also looked at home on a few occasions when he was moved into the midfield. There could be more of that in 2025. 2024 Player Reviews: #3 Christian Salem

The luckless Salem suffered a hamstring injury against the Lions early in the season and, after missing a number of games, he was never at his best. He was also inconvenienced by minor niggles later in the season. This was a blow for the club that sorely needed him to fill gaps in the midfield at times as well as to do his best work in defence.
