Is it an important issue? I think so Is the scrutiny Eddie is getting fair? I don't think so. Mens health is also a big issue and the way people are getting stuck into Eddie I feel is its own form of bullying. Just read through this thread at what some posters have been calling him and tell me that it is no worse then what he said.

Spoken like a person who has never seen the inside of a Mediation Centre, Family Court, or been through the Separation process. And spoken like a person who has no idea about the grossly disproportionate suicide rates that men "enjoy" over women during such process. That is your ignorance. Go sit in a Family Court for a few days and educate yourself.

The difference is yes this is a public forum, but its readership, apart from a couple of journalists looking for a story to start, are supporters/followers of MFC, so I doubt that Eddie will read them Eddie broadcast his banter on a radio station, that despite the tripe it broadcasts, has a large listening audience

It's not either/or.

Sorry but yesterday it was every where, every man his dog (is that ok to say now?) was talking about this, now it's pretty much just the age, a few pieces in the herald but no mention of it on 3AW or JJJ news reports every 1/2 hour. You watch, tomorrow neither paper will be talking about the real issue, just whether Holden dumps Collingwood or not.

I don't think anyone has or would say that because Eddie made that comment then he would commit domestic violence, but what people are recognizing is that attitudes and culture need to change to help that bigger problem. Some comments have been over the top, but many more have totally missed the point and tried to blow it off altogether. Personally I think if Eddie had made a "real" apology the first time then a lesson would have been learned and people would have moved on, but he made it worse by pulling a typical "I'm sorry you were offended" statement which typifies a lot of the attitudes towards the issue as a whole.
Atholwebb 110 Posted June 21, 2016 Posted June 21, 2016 An important point I think to consider is that Eddie McGuire and James Brayshaw are Chairmen of their footy clubs and the footballers in all clubs attend programs which counsel them on a number of issues which include violence towards women. What sort of an example are McGuire and Brayshaw setting for the players to follow when they guffaw and joke about drowning a woman. Despite what a number of others on this web site think, it is not a joke and it is so called 'friendly banter' gone very wrong. The fact that McGuire and Brayshaw say that they still have things to learn when it goes to what you can say and what you can't say in public is quite amazing for men in their respective positions.

Why isn't that front page news? eddie mcchins is not of your generation olisik and believe me he was using the "old" derogatory meaning of black widow i hadn't been aware of him saying this so it does add a sexist element to his behaviour though i believe his prime motivation was more personal and an underhand payback to caro's recent journalistic criticisms of him

Such a shame, because I was in real admiration up to the end of the second paragraph. Then you went completely rogue. Weird, because I think you'll find that people who don't care about the abuses of women in Islam are from both sides of politics - it's not a Left/Right issue. Look, I don't crave yours or any other admiration. I post and people can choose what they like or otherwise, it matters not to me. If I was concerned I wouldn't write what I know will have the hand-wringers seething. The Left love to be our moral guidance on most social aspects, but when it comes to Islam they are completely silent. Utterly silent. And it's deafening, because they screech from the rooftops on everything else. Where are the feminists when it comes to Islam and its gay/women's rights ? Why you can't see this fascinates me. I'll put it down to left-wing sentiments. Rest assured though, I have little time for the present right in politics. They're a do nothing gutless mob only interested in their own interests.

Double standards much? Its a nickname, many people have them. Hell even Watts even referred to Petracca as the Beast. Imagine he referred to Caroline as that. Were they referring to the super hero? Was it a term of endearment? No on both counts for Caro and yes on both counts for Hulk and the Beast. Very different things.

That is completely untrue. The difference is the left are seeking to separate true Muslims, who are peaceful, and those who twist the Koran to suit their own socio-political agendas, whereas the right are painting all of them with the same brush and just want to bomb them or ban them. Subtlety and understanding has never been your strong point though, or that of the right with which you identify.
