No idea why you've bumped this but anyway. 4 games in the VFL seniors. 22 and 23 touches in his last two. Bailey talking about how well he's done to manage his time and that he'll be managed.

Far out we really screwed the pooch on this one by letting the narrative get out of control that he was the Queens Birthday messiah.

Shows how distrustful and weak our senior players were as well that they couldn't support Jack.

Watts has let himself down over the years, but the club did him no favours.

And as they say history is written by the victors, if we want to move on from such calamities we need to find a way to start winning.

I think we need to consider this when contemplating bringing young kids in for a debut game,  especially when in they're first season of AFL footy.

We have some near ready,  Petracca,  & down the track,  Weideman.   Maybe one of the Kings soon enough?

Lets be patient til they are mentally ready,  rather than just playing well in the VFL.

all of the above DSpencer. & yes, no support from our so called leaders on the big stage.  I would have felt very let down by my mates if I was out there...  any wonder he wouldn't & didn't 'go',  when his turn.   What sort of example did our leaders  x-hibit to him & others.   they were as weak as Piz.

I'll go on one more Schwarta would have been right in there along with Whelan,  Jnr Mac,  neita would have followed in,   others ????

# I was going to put this in the 'Weideman'  thread,  to Picket,  but decided its more value regarding all our recruits & debuting them;  & us putting pressure on,  wanting to hastily witness them in red & blue. so here it is.

Doesn't hurt to look back to remember occasionally what we did then,   & how we might change that now.

The players are mentally ready for Gods sake. I'm not mentally ready to see a new Melbourne player come in and dominate the opposition.

In other other news Neale Daniher has just been appointed coach and Todd Viney as captain.

No,  many players play too soon & end up having their careers destroyed.  or badly hampered.

Roosy has mentioned this many times,  Re those who were damaged over the last & years or so, from all the huge losses, but also the way they were mishandled.   Those players also came into a club with a very soft & lazy culture,  where the players ran the club.  They had it too easy for a decade & the disciplines were missing.

tail wagging dog.

the new recruits entered the building whilst this culture was reigning supreme.  see Travis Johnston,  Whitey,  Brock Mclean,  Colin Sylvia,  Brad Green,  Bruce,  Robbo, Yze,

All the good ones were at the club well before these guys above,  Schwarta, Neitz, Jnr Mac, Whelan...  all great Demons.   And when these guys finished up,  we were slowly declining as the others weren't of the same Ilk.

So no pineapple,  players need to be mentally ready to be able to cope with the game.  bringing them in too soon can wreck them.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
