The Duke

I see The Duke (the old Duke of Wellington) is a sponsor of some sort of MFC. I was just wondering if many Melbourne supporters get down there before or after games - or intend to. Was thinking of heading there myself for a pregame beer or two but just curious if there is any sort of MFC presence there.

It's certainly a good deal for MFC supporters Stinger.  10% off food & bev as well as a free pint if we win after the match. I might give it a try with bro before the match on Sat

I thought Earl Spalding must have returned to the club when I saw that heading.

We should never have got rid of that guy.

Tough?    He dislocated both shoulders of a Swan player in Sydney(?Bolton) with one bump.  He managed to knee Dunstall's head in.....? Deliberately. Couldn't kick, but a power forward.

I've been to The Duke pre game for a beer and a meal. Basic pub grub and a few fancier dishes. Like most pubs in the CBD the beer is not cheap, but the discount helps. Nice to see a number of Dee's fans in colours there. Worth supporting.

Nice pub, but they don't really care about the MFC connection. Watched an interstate game there once without about 40 other Dees supporters and 2 random punters and they wouldn't switch off the cheese funk music to put the game audio on.

The Richmond Club is a MUCH better pub if you're looking for some food and bevys before the game.

Been to both Richmond Club and London Tavern as usually coming from South East but coming from South Melbourne this weekend thought I'd try a new approach :)

And yes Jumping Jack I thought the title might cause a bit of confusion around Spalding.

There was a big contingent of dees there Saturday arvo last week after the win.

I like the Royal across the road from the G. Always something interesting to watch if melbourne are stinking it up

I was wondering if he had a father son prodigy.

Mountain View (also in Richmond) is a good venue to watch interstate (or Etihad) matches. As Barassi's old pub, it also has a tenuous MFC connection of sorts.

Hmmmm, I wonder why that would have been.....

I'd suggest they might get a little busier post game this year, and on into the next few. With any luck they'll have gone broke by, let's say, around early October 2018.

But Spalding caused Dunstall's brain damage that we still have to endure on Fox Footy.

We usually head to the Duke afterwards if we win to grab a free Demon Ale. Who doesnt love free beer, that tastes even sweeter

after a Victory!

Went and saw Roos and Vince speak there mid season last year.

A good night...

Free beer at the Deer's Head tomorrow after the game.

  • Thank You Simon Goodwin

As Demon fans, we’ve ridden a rollercoaster of emotions over the decades; the heartbreaks, the near misses, the wooden spoons, and the endless waiting. But through it all, we clung to hope. And then came Simon Goodwin. Before he ever wore red and blue, he was a champion in his own right. A five-time All-Australian, two-time Best and Fairest, and two-time premiership hero and Captain with Adelaide, Simon Goodwin was always destined to lead. When he transitioned from the field to the coach's box, first as an assistant at Essendon, he began shaping a new legacy.

  • PREVIEW: Western Bulldogs

Long ago and far away, the Melbourne Football Club replaced its coach in difficult circumstances after the team suffered a devastating loss. In the aftermath, I penned the following words: “Then came the politics, the intrigue, the axing, the sound of the football world laughing at a club, the circling of the media vultures, the reinvention of history, the anger, the irony, the pathos, the hurt on the face of the president, the dignified departure of the coach, and the determination of the newly appointed caretaker.” Today, we’re back in the same place although one difference here is that the coach who was terminated this time is Simon Goodwin, the man who four years ago

  • REPORT: West Coast

The Charles Dickens novel, A Tale of Two Cities, opens with, “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, …”  This phrase highlights many of the significant challenges that humanity encounters in life, ranging from experiencing remarkable highs to living in times of despair. This is a concept that should resonate with all supporters of the Melbourne Football Club this morning as they reflect on its comprehensive 83-point victory over the struggling West Coast Eagles at Marvel Stadium. The outcome proved beyond doubt that they are the worst of clubs and that we are the best of the worst.
