good catch hardtack. wonder why oz press didn't pick this up in 2002 or maybe they did?.

I think they did... one of the sources listed is the Sydney Morning Herald, but that is now a dead link.

This was 2002 when the ruling catholic orthodoxy was that abuse didn't happen. It was around the time that Father Frank Maloney, the Chief Salesian in Australia then, asked the question, Well, who are you going to believe, a priest or a junkie?

Maloney was simply spruiking,or, regurgitating the Catholic state of denial.

Thanks for posting that, Hardtack. Amazing. These creeps... I was raised a Catholic - hate em now. We're going to see them in all their glory during the gay marriage plebiscite. I can see it now,  The usual scene: a bunch of old men who who've worn dresses for their day job telling other people how to live their lives. The gall... The gall... If I had as many skeletons in my closet as they have, I'd be ashamed to open my mouth in public.

just amazing,  the lack of sympathy empathy & responsibility for the clergy he serves with,  the band of brotherhood or some such?

......  that he goes on to belittle the betrayal of young minds to this filth they  (catholic church)  serve up,  & the message of taboo sex before marriage,  but they the (catholic bretheren)  partake in sex out of marriage themselves against the communities own laws of buggery & child molestation.

he Pell,  thinks he is a law unto himself,   even outside of the churches teachings itself.   send him to syria to work for  isis...   let him teach them a thing or 2.

I was at a friend's place in about 1998, we were celebrating his birthday. He's a painter and the guests came from all backgrounds. I found out one of them was a priest. I sat down to chat with him and Pell's name came up. The priest said, " George Pell is a c...t'.

Hmm it is fascinating he is being protected.

This has enormous ramifications to the Vatican if Pell is nailed with a guilty verdict.

These old institutions do not understand one aspect.

People now get information quicker and more of it.

Pell will not ride this wave out.

He will either come home to court or die soon...

wish i could go to The Vatican and escort The filthy Basterd home...Wearing a Demon Jumper of course...

What amuses me is that when the Hun ran the story about the Pell being investigated  last Saturday, Pell more or less ordered the cops to run an inquiry into who leaked information to the Hun. And guess what, the cops simply followed orders!

they say SWYL,  that bad things happen when good people stay quiet.

...... & staying quiet is the churches methodology.  they teach their parishioners to stay quiet,  & encourage suppression of emotions like anger.  anger is a healthy emotion once expressed verbally bottled up its a timebomb for sickness.

Anger is only bad when behaved out as violence,,,  or abuse in relationships, & this is used by both sexes equally,  as a weapon of choice.

I'm not surprised to see so many sick people,  who have been from catholic families...    so many look drawn & withered,  & not all have been molested,  I'm sure.

Pell will be brought home eventually to face his music....  wait till the fat lady starts to warm her chords.  the night is but still young.

It's not only Pell: he's the mole on top of the molehill. There are the seriously demented salesians - my background - and the so f..c..ng called christian brothers. god spare me, god spare me from my wrath.

Yep. I was there when Maloney was the sportsmaster. I thought he was a good bloke because he didn't beat kids, none of the warm cuddly stuff either. And, he promoted me to the first eleven. Then he became the so-called Provincial and made the remark about priests being more credible than junkies. Unbelievable stuff....

I not religious at all, but I must admit that whenever father Bob was on TV, I listened. He was so direct and undogmatic. It'd be nice if there were a few more father Bobs around and a few less Cardinal Pells.

I try to also be direct & open honest.   But find people still don't believe you - distrust you...  as they seem to expect lies from others,  so they seem to try to reinterpret the honesty,  & it then gets rewritten in their heads to suit their own coloured perception anyway.

This is how sick the world has become,   that honest communication is a lost art.

I think the churches with their confessions,  & they're desire to crush 'emotions of anger',  creates this political correctness,  at least may be its inception,  then, that PC silence,  undermines the truth.

it has become that direct talk is seen as rude ???????????????????  not the grapevine talk,  & whispers/rumours as being rude..  the young generations IMO,  have got it arze about.

The  Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse has been told Cardinal George Pell's health could be at risk if he travelled to Australia to give evidence.

His doctors in Rome had advised against a long-haul flight as it would present a "serious risk to his health".

Their two-page medical report was tendered to the commission.   But the full contents remain confidential at present.

Allan Myers, QC,   representing the Cardinal,  said the medical report should not be released because it would prompt media speculation and there was no public interest to be served.

However,  lawyers representing people who have given evidence of child abuse against various Catholic religious orders and individuals asked that the full medical report be disclosed.

In Melbourne,  Paul Dwyer,  on behalf of two alleged victims,  said many people had been required to reveal their most intimate details to the commission and Cardinal Pell should be treated no differently.

And after being permitted to read the medical report Mr Dwyer told commission chair Justice Peter McClellan there was no reason to keep it confidential as it simply showed health problems normally associated with  "a man of the Cardinal's age".

Mr Myers said Cardinal Pell wished to give video evidence from Rome,  saying he wanted to do so as soon as possible in the interest of victims.

"The Cardinal's view is that it's very important that he give his evidence as soon as may be,  while the evidence of others is fresh,  and he certainly wants to avoid the appearance that he's unwilling to give evidence,"  Mr Myers told the inquiry.

Ballarat-born Cardinal Pell,  chief financial adviser to the Vatican  and the third most powerful man in the Catholic Church,  has been called to give evidence to the commission for the third time to answer allegations he was complicit in widespread church cover-up.

The commission has heard from child abuse victim David Ridsdale that Cardinal Pell tried to bribe him to keep quiet................

I'm really surprised & very disappointed that we haven't seen any Practicing Catholics post on this thread about their thoughts on Pells return or not,  & the churches partaking in Child Sexual Abuse over the last many decades in Australia.

Surely there are some at the very least, who care about the poor souls who have been damaged for their lives.

I came across one catholic recently who said the catholic church was being singled out. In other words, don't acknowledge the criminal and immoral behavior,  throw the focus on the other.

Which is similar to the ranting and posturing of Austen Tayshus and Julie Szego when they tell the world to turn a blind eye to the slaughter of Palestinians by Israel, saying Israel has been put under the spotlight unfairly because its critics aren't focusing on all the other atrocities in the world.

Just to correct some fairly obvious errors....

- It is not just Austen Tayshus and Julie Szego

- they are not telling the world to turn a blind eye

 - they are not saying Israel is saying it's critics aren't focusing on all the other atrocities in the world.

The general thrust of the argument is that much of main stream media is not reporting with the same frequency or emphasis the atrocities being committed by the Palestinians. They highlight the imbalance in the reporting - which I agree with.

Before you jump on me I will state categorically that in my opinion an atrocity cannot be waved away by the argument that "the other side are doing it too". I am highly critical of some of the actions of the Israeli Government (especially the land grab in the West Bank and East Jerusalem) and army as I am of certain elements of the Palestinians.

I agree dieter.....

yes, my experiences with the catholic's is similar...  its an us against the rest of world type thing, it seems.

.....   those kids were such trouble,  they deserved to be buggered.  they must have had the devil in them.  got there deserts....... NOT !

when churches become nothing more than cartels,  they have to be brought down & to account.   renewal is cleansing, at this axis of the changing of millennium.

I dislike the argument "but hey, look at what the others are doing" or "why are we being singled out when others are doing the same". There is accuracy in in the statements as there is not equality in coverage or the spotlight does not fall in equal proportions. But to use this approach to try and downplay ones actions I find abhorrent.

We kill but what about others who kill ? We may have sexually abused children but what about others who have done the same ? This doesn't sit with me at all.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.
