Grimes and Lumumba - more opportunity?

i always saw melksham as more a mid than a half-back flanker, but i know he's been earmarked as a half-back flanker.

 

with melksham having been earmarked for the half-back flank role, does this create a greater opportunity for either grimes or lumumba to cement their spot in that defensive 6?

 

grimes would be my preference as first cab off the rank for the role, as i'm not a huge fan of harry.

Those two have got more than just Melksham to deal with.

H has an awful lot to do to redeem himself from last years performance.

Grimes I think has the potential to be in the team most weeks.

I think a more attacking gameplan will work wonders for many players.

I agree Steve they wont be looking sideways and backwards so much.

Grimes seemed to go backwards from the start of our defence at all costs and play to the boundaries coach remember him

Yeah my first thought was White might be able to take advantage of the opportunity. We're crying out for some skill and poise out of the backline. Alas, I reckon Grimes will be the likely chosen one.

LaBamba will be first cab off the rank ahead of White and Grimes.

Roos was all over him at last years trade period so will give him every opportunity to ensure the trade wasn't a bust.

I doubt the Prince will be ready by round 1. He has been with the rehab group the whole of the preseason so far. Grimes for mine.

Grimes was already in my best 22. Melksham on the fringe somewhere. Lumumba can spend the rest of his career at Casey for all I care. I would prefer to see White in the team before Lumumba gets another chance.

Grimes was dropped for the opening few rounds last year only coming in after injuries to others. He was dropped twice again during the year before succumbing to injury. Considering his disposal and decision making hasn't improved that much I think he's cooked. He's part of the reason we get bogged down in out backline. As we try to advance as a group we need flexibility, I would also try players like Stretch and ANB along with White off half back.

Essentially Grimes is the new Jordie, can't fault his application and the way he goes about it but his skills aren't up to it.  Playing off half back he needs to be damaging by foot and he's not, blame coaches for gameplan and culture but not his inability to kick the footy.
