But it was still a mark for Watts. Even if you subscribe to the "pay the man in front" approach, we've seen repeated examples this season of the man in back being paid the mark because he came down with it. They paid one against us (Garland I think) in the goalsquare a few weeks ago. If Schultz, Buddy, Lynch, Walker, Elliot or however many other forwards from more respected sides took that it would have bee paid in a heartbeat.

The most troubling umpiring decision of the night was the holding the ball against Dunn when he was tackled without prior right after Darling was dispossessed in an almost identical manner.

I reckon the most bafflng decision was the free against Hogan with a minute to play. Two Eagles collided and the free was given against Hogan. Absolute joke. The commentators said nothing about it. Dermie was too busy prattling on about something insignificant.

Derm was going to Derm. Presumably Watts pushed his man in. Heard the umpire called it a push. It was baffling, but of little consequence. The ones against us to WC infront of goal really hurt us when we needed to keep grinding in to the game (as is our style).

I'm not sure how the Toump escapes notice. Had a shocker and happy for him to join Bail and Howe out the door this week.

They both had no prior. They both spat the ball out. I don't get how you can draw a line between the two. Ok so Dunn dropped it more obviously than Darling dropped it but neither was a handball.

I'm all for calling a throw a throw but if a player hasn't had prior and gets the ball out then you may as well call play on otherwise you'll be splitting hairs all night long.

I can't stand some of the frees paid in marking contests. Often a player running back who goes for a spoil gives away a free for "frontal contact". Then of course when a defender blocks or even nudges a player going for a mark they give a free apparently because the defender took their eyes off the ball as if that's a law of the game

It'll be about how we back up after the exhausting, energy sapping NT conditions. I'm a little worried about the effective 6 day turnaround off the back of all that. We really should win our next three though.

If we're talking about Jimmy Toumpas here, in the first quarter, he was constantly in the wrong position or second guessing himself. It's not just about ineffective disposals, it's the ones that he doesn't create because his mind is behind the game. Fortunately, each time he came off, McCartney seemed to be in his ear. Couldn't have a better bloke guiding him. I just hope he starts to take that first decision soon. I think we'll all see that his instinct is the right option.

Skills, turnovers. Got a bit to go, but the kids are holding up OK. Alongside us, Eagles look incredibly well-drilled (has been pointed out already).

Last quarter blow-out not ideal, but we're just a bit under-manned. Losing Bradshaw didn't help.

Nor did Hogan missing those two gettable goals early on when we still had some momentum.
