THE DRUG SCANDAL: AFL TRIBUNAL DECIDES

Stankey kept some notes . . . . . .

July 2013

In a statement released to the Australian Stock Exchange on Monday, Metabolic's parent company Calzada Limited said it "categorically refutes" any suggestion it had been involved in secret drug trials involving Bombers players.

"Metabolic has not been involved in any human clinical trial activity since early 2007," the statement read.
"Metabolic has never commissioned third parties to use AOD9604 for the purpose of generating patient data or any other purpose.
"Furthermore, Metabolic does not manufacture, supply or sell AOD9604."
The company did confirm the existence of "four case notes" linked to professional football players using a topical cream.
"The four case notes relating to 'professional footballers' all involved use of a topical cream form of delivery, not injection."
The company said it became aware of a growing black market in the use of AOD9604 in 2010.
It insisted that while Dank agreed to document a number of historical case notes in September 2012, the treatments were not commissioned by Metabolic, which owns the Australian and international rights to the drug.

It said a report from Dank in November 2012 on 25 case notes assessing the biological function of AOD9604 only recorded historical anecdotal information.
"In no way do these notes constitute a clinical trial," the statement read.

Demitrio tipping Essendon off 36 hours before the investigation started.

A lot of destroying can be achieved

Worst CEO the AFL has ever had. without any doubt

I still hope WADA can still catch these cheats.

Vlad you are a disgrace to the game.

Yup. Thats what it all came down to.

If that corrupt [censored] didn't tip them off, ASADA would have been able to march down to the club without Essendon having any warning.

The minute he did that a plan "D" went into action ...Deny , Destroy, Deliberate, Delay, Deceive, Dissimulate, Defer, Distract and Distort

what Demetriou did was Dumb and frankly Dishonest

It wasn't dumb. Vlad knew exactly what he was doing

It was dishonest to 17 other clubs & should be a criminal offence

it was dumb because it was obvious what he had done. He since claimed he wasnt giving any team in particular a heads up...but he only called one club. Not too bright if you want to be seen as uninvolved.

Although essendon think he was the bad guy to them and did them no favours.

Fools

Yes i still cannot work out why Essendon unanamously attacked the AFL so hard.

That 36 hours probably saved there existance sadly

Agree. But I can understand him telling a club president that they have been named in a serious report if he had the best interests of the game.

He nor anyone was not to know what had transpired at Essendon during the previous 18 months.

But it does not take away from the sheer culpability of those in charge at Essendon for whole appalling mess.

You cant work it out?? Really?? Given what has transpired you do understand why Essendon unaminously attacked the AFL so hard? Staggering.........

The 36 hours would be neither here nor there given if the records did exist then EFC had plenty of time to dispose of the records pre Vlad and certainly post Vlad.

ASADA did not have the resources to run a chook raffle at a primary school so they would not have been able to respond appropriately upon the ACC announcement.

I know you are deeply frustrated at the failure of those culpable being brought to account but dipping into absurdity and hyperbole does not lend you any credibility.

Records of Peptide use being destroyed should have finished Essendon off completely, it still may

Vlad giving them a 36 hour window to do just that is a disgrace

An element to keep in mind was the then fairly recent history ( and therefore knowledge by the League ) of Hirds interest in various 'supplements' The League had already warned him.

Indeed samples were considered for testing...back then.

Ask yourself...why did Vlad only call essendon.... a lucky guess ? probably not

Easter is over, what's with the Workcover investigation?

Conveniently swept under the carpet, I suspect. Like AHPRA's investigation (not) of Bruce Reid's abrogation of his responsibilities to his patients over that to his employers

About Essendon and ANZAC day match, many years ago 1982 to be exact whilst on deployment to Singapore[ I was in the RAAF] we were asked to provide a guard of honour for dawn service at Changi war cemetery. To watch Real heroes break down and cry openly, to hear them talk of their long dead mates buried there, it was very moving and a scene I will never forget.

To mention Essendon and those heroes in the same sentence is simply discusting. Essendon are simply DIRTY LYING DRUG CHEATS, and a simple not guilty verdict dosnt wash it with me.

On one hand you have men who gave all for their mates, and the other you have efc who took all and don't care about anybody else.

Dawn service at Changi haunts me forever, and for the efc to even exist on the same planet is so very very sad.

Well said mate. And you are right. Its disgusting that they are allowed to be compared with real heroes, but watch the suckholes in the media do just that on ANZAC day.

Lest we forget the drug cheating

NO AFL FOOTBALLER, nor any other sportsman, even drug free ones, should EVER be compared to war heroes. It sickens me to hear that announcer ?Craig Willis comparing them at the match. Just sickening. Bluey Truscott, Ron Barassi Sen, Keith Miller and so many others must be turning in their very correctly much revered graves.

I find it impossible to watch any of the introductions to the match, nor the bloody "heroes" being presented with their medals "in the spirit of ANZAC". How demeaning.

Left everything under the watchful eye of DOC RIED.

Agree with the first sentence to the point it will finish off any remaining senior staff (Hird and Reid), remaining Board directors and shame those directly and indirectly involved at the Club.

Disagree with the 2nd sentence. If the records did exist (evidence?) then they could have been destroyed before Vlad's advice to self report or indeed any time after. And if they did exist they may still well be in existence in a very hidden place. Your angst is only one of numerous plausible outcomes that we have. And its certainly not the only one.

Your third sentence is merely your view based on your flawed logic. The lack of record evidence has prevented Essendon being convicted upon the evidence.

They had no proof of what he was taking. And did the AFL have actual samples of what Hiird was alleged to have taken? And considered for testing??? They either tested them or they did not. And did they may not at that time been able to run effective tests on some of these peptides.

The league had warned all AFL clubs including Essendon about supplements programs. Essendon were the ones mentioned via the ACC because of the identified connection with Stephen Dank who was alleged to be involved in the importation of banned substances.

I know its disappointing they got off especially given all the emotional energy expended on Dland on this but you are clutching at straws in respect of Vlad in absence of real evidence.

This is no way excuses what actually went on at Essendon.

Once Vlad gave Essendon a heads up it gave them time to formulate a path forward. The EFC knew it would seem better to look like they were coming clean but all the whiles they were making sure nothing incriminating was going to appear ( well, from them )

All the whiles whilst seeming to co-operate in the front office they were cleaning up the backrooms. Wouldnt have happen if ASADA had gotten to cold call them

Once the ACC annnounced only then were ASADA advised they were involved by the then Minister of Sport.

And ASADA were hardly in a position to go door knocking.

they werent so much interested in what Hird had taken or used himself but what he was trying to find out about.

The League of course warned all clubs... yet strangely only rang ONE that particular evening ..One !! Why just ONE ??

If he has done an excel or other type of file on his computer, why hasn't there been a forensic investigation of his hard drive?

May be they regularly defrag their hard drive with the old format c command?

thats not right. Danks name had popped up in connection to a number of clubs....even ours

As I read it it was more about the involvement of Charters and the links to other nefarious groups. It was here that essendon got mentioned in the despatches ( as it were)

The ACC ( imho ) was a little careless in its dealings with the league. They had Essendon in their sights and let Vlad in on this.

This was the moment that triggered Vlad giving the heads up to essendon. Again...essendon and no other club were rang that evening . Vlad knew full well what was now going on. He could foresee the fall out. I cant believe for a second that his sole thinking was that essendon might do the right thing here, unless of course doing the right thing was getting rid of the evidence !!

    HIGHLIGHTS/LOWLIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Melbourne traveled across the continent to take on the Fremantle Dockers in sweltering conditions at Mandurah south of Perth in a game that delivered the club both its highlight and its lowlight in the first minute.  But first, let’s start by doing away with the usual cliches used in connection with the game. It was just a practice match and the result didn’t matter. Bad kicking is bad football. The game was played in severe heat, the swirly breeze played havoc with both teams resulting in

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
