Ease up. It was a team trading their best player and it set them up for a dynasty.

It's relevance is subjective.

Who mentioned anything about best players, dynasties, relevance or subjectivity (although the relevance is implicit)?

The Goodbye Mr Chip Drafting and Trading Board is a board about trading, as the name suggests. Free agency, the Americanisation of Australian sport and trade tactics, among other things directly attributable to the film are hot topics in Melbourne in October.

Surely without too much prompting, the phrase "food for thought" comes tumbling into view.

Much prefer this system to the EPL where the vast majority of teams have no chance of a premiership unless they are purchased by a Saudi oil prince or a Russian gangster. Each of the major US sports works hard to ensure that success is shared around the competition.

And they have no advertising on their uniforms! In the land of rampant commerce!

Mind you the cost of this is private ownership but all the European soccer clubs have private ownership and their players are mobile billboards.

I do long for a return to the uninterrupted geometric beauty of (successful) days gone. Impossible I know.
