Patrick Dangerfield

Apparently we offered Dan Hannebry a 7 year deal at over a mil so i suppose we are keen on landing a big name player.

If true, I'm glad it didn't go through.

He's a good player but that's plain overs.

2 points.

-Free agency is actually proving to be very good for us thus far, as has the Scully defection. The existence of GWS has been handy having now traded for 2 home goers.

-Demonlanders are much less gun shy about the draft.

We need to keep doing what we are doing with astute, well informed people driving the recruiting and list management.

and then he went and signed a five year contract with the swans..mmm still got some work to do

Source?

It's all over social media, bunch of reporters saying he knocked back 6 year deals from the tigers and Norf and a 7 year deal from us.

Do you know with 100% certainty that all of those players won't be here next year?

Didn't think so.

Do you know how much money Hogan / Salem / Brayshaw/ Petracca will commend in the next 3-4 years?

Didn't think so.

As much as I like Dangerfield, we aren't in our "window" and I don't know that the capital outlay will be worth it.

Maybe not, but we have opened the latch......:)

I think that its not only who you play alongside but just as important as who you are coached by long term that matters

more when you make the decision of leaving one club for another. These decisions can be career success stories.

Nothing I read in that article leads me to the same conclusion as you..

I for one believe that he is a 'bit' player. Easily replaceable and someone (like Frawley and Sylvia in the past) who will net is something better.

These guys are not leaders of the club and aren't taking the club forward. It's the younger guys who are doing it now.

Garland's position can easily be replaced and to be honest, I'd like it to be.

I don't buy too much into the 'mental scars' thing.. because Nathan Jones makes the point moot... BUT if ever there was a poster boy for mental scars it's Garland, you can see it in his face when he plays footy. I'm not necessarily seeing him part of the Jones/Vince/Hogan/Brayshaw/Viney/McDonald type attitude that represents the club we are rebuilding

the other line in the article:

However, the Demons' encouraging 4-8 start to 2015

reminds me just how pathetic we have been. Yay we won 4 out of 12!

Could easy be 6-6, with 5 or 6, maybe 7 more to come

I love how in the Garland article it says we've been hit the hardest by free agency. Whatever mate.

Last two years:

Vince for Sylvia.

Brayshaw for Frawley.

Cross and Riley for nothing at all.

Sam Blease off to run around in the VFL for Geelong.

Definitely winning at losing our players.

We will never be in our "window" if we keep going for kids.

We need quality peak age players around the young guns or they will never develop into what they should be.

Dangerfield is 25. Get it, 25. When do you think we should start getting better rather than thinking about the far off future?

Jamar is playing for Casey, no talk of contract.

Garland is a free agent, no talk of contract.

Howe is out of contract, no talk of contract.

Don't be naive.

I don't see why people are so adverse to the idea of going hard at Dangerfield.

We pay $1m a year combined for Lumumba & Dawes to do sweet FA. Much better to throw that money at a genuine star like Dangerfield and bring in a hungry rookie in the vandenBerg mould to top up the list.

Add the almost certain departures of Jamar and McKenzie at year end, and possibly Howe as well, and we have oodles of salary cap space.

rather go Hard at the pair of Henderson & Prestia, than just dangermouse.

As far as losing experienced players we have been, regardless of whether or not we've come out on top. Sam Blease and Riley had nothing to do with free agency either.

Why are people still discussing Garland? Has this just been dismissed as patently false? It's massive if there's even a skerrick of truth to the rumour . . .

A 24 y/o rejects a seven year contract at over 7million dollars in favour of a five year deal a year and a half out from the end of his current contract with free agency looming. With COLA coming to an end what could Sydney possibly be paying him? Has Roosy spooked his old club with a gambit to pry someone else loose? WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - JOSH P KENNEDY

It was all over the wire last year, could happen. Pretty good midfield Jones, Vince, Brayshaw, Tyson, Viney, Petracca, Kennedy *drools*

I'm still convinced Roosy and co. were cooking up something re. Sydney last year before the AFL nixed their player-trades and we suddenly shopped Trengove out for a first-round pick. Just not sure what we might have been interested in in that section of the draft. Or maybe Roos just gets a kick out of trolling Collis - Perris, Dew, Heeney & maybe now Hannerbery. Though he does tend to compliment Kennedy every chance he gets.

We were the last of the Clubs that actually made a formal offer to Hannaberry to make ours. We offered 5 years at $900k per year with $1.2 front loaded in each of the first 2 years.

He had no thought or real interest in leaving Sydney, however, if he did the Kangas would have been the choice.

This sounds a far more convincing and reasonable scenario so I'm going to take it as gospel.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: West Coast

Epic battle alert.  This Sunday, Casey Fields hosts a coach’s showdown pitting the wits of the master Mick Stinear (92 games, 71.7% win rate) against his protégé Daisy Pearce (16 games, 43.8%). Still early in her coaching journey, Daisy’s record doesn’t yet reflect her impact — but she’s already the best-performed coach at West Coast.Dais’ is mythic.  Like Katniss Everdeen, everyone either wants to kiss her, kill her (sporting metaphor) or be her.  Toothers Daisy Pearce is a role model, someone admired for their heart, humility and humour.

  • AFLW REPORT: Port Adelaide

Well, that was a shock. The Demons 4-game unbeaten run came to a grinding halt in a tense, scrappy affair at the sunny, windy Alberton Oval, with the Power holding on for a 2-point win. The Dees had their chances—plenty of them—but couldn't convert when it mattered most. Port’s tackling pressure rattled the Dees, triggering a fumble frenzy and surprising lack of composure from seasoned players.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.
