Joel Tippett

He might be open to a sleazy three way deal.

Would you take.....a couple of years then?

he was no Tony Campbell ,who was no Danny Hughes .

Being a bit harsh on Nicho, he was actually a lot more effective than people think, just didn't look glamorous. He dropped away in his latter years, which is what people tend to remember.

James Frawley's another good example of a full back who's athletic ability outweighs his football ability.

Don't know enough about Tippet....is he strong enough? That would be my concern.

bit harsh on terlich and jones

Appalling. In fact I'd go so far as to say disgraceful given their loyal and effective service under great difficulty this year.

Who's to say they won't improve further with a second preseason under their belts and 20 games experience?

LIKE!

Jones & Terlich were inspired pick ups given how quickly they transitioned to the AFL.

It also highlighted just how bad our midfield/side was.

Magner was our best player in the first three games he played for us. I have nothing against either of them I just think if they're in our best 22, then we are going nowhere.

You don't get games because of loyalty you get them because of ability.

Says zilch about his footballing ability though, doesn't it.

He's been delisted by two clubs.

No.

That was a few years ago. Not saying you're wrong, but he wouldn't be the first person for whom the penny dropped once they reached 25.

Did he even get on the park? He was fairly injury prone. But seems have got it together last few years. Our KPD stocks are low, so mature backup required

Off to North.

We obviously liked the midfielder more.

i have a suspicion the club is going to go shopping for KP's next year, supposedly more fish on offer.

This year is about taller , bigger runners.....theres been a theme

It's not like we are St Kilda of 2013 and devoid of KPP. So no need to take a substandard one if there is better other types of available. You're right in saying there's plenty on offer next year KPP wise.

As for this year it's been about midfielders and about a spread of types.

Taller - Cross, Tyson, Hunt

Stronger - Michie, Riley, Harmes if he fills out

Faster - Hunt, JKH, Salem

More skilled - Vince, Salem, JKH

Experienced - Vince, Cross

Ready to break out over next year or two - Tyson, Michie, Riley

This years draft was about making sure that each and every week for next year and beyond we have some options to play different roles within a much better midfield.

Maybe Tippett would've been great defensive cover but as it is we can ask Dunn or Garland to play tall, bring in Pedersen for the right match up or even move Hogan to CHB which I think for a short period of cover would be very good for his footy education.

at the risk of going at a tangent I'll just say theres a theme.. Roos et al have taken a few taller mobiles .

I tend to agree with The Master in that we have looked to ensure a certain level of ability takes the field each week.

There was a time during the current Melbourne cycle that goes back to before the premiership when the club was the toughest to beat in the fourth quarter. The Demons were not only hard to beat at any time but it was virtually impossible to get the better them when scores were close at three quarter time. It was only three or four years ago but they were fit, strong and resilient in body and mind. Sadly, those days are over. This has been the case since the club fell off its pedestal about 12 months ago after it beat Geelong and then lost to Carlton. In both instances, Melbourne put together strong, stirring final quarters, one that resulted in victory, the other, in defeat. Since then, the drop off has been dramatic to the point where it can neither pull off victory in close matches, nor can it even go down in defeat  gallantly.

  • CASEY: Footscray

At twenty-four minutes into the third term of the game between the Casey Demons and Footscray VFL at Whitten Oval, the visitors were coasting. They were winning all over the ground, had the ascendancy in the ruck battles and held a 26 point lead on a day perfect for football. What could go wrong? Everything. The Bulldogs moved into overdrive in the last five minutes of the term and booted three straight goals to reduce the margin to a highly retrievable eight points at the last break. Bouyed by that effort, their confidence was on a high level during the interval and they ran all over the despondent Demons and kicked another five goals to lead by a comfortable margin of four goals deep into the final term before Paddy Cross kicked a couple of too late goals for a despondent Casey. A testament to their lack of pressure in the latter stages of the game was the fact that Footscray’s last ten scoring shots were nine goals and one rushed behind. Things might have been different for the Demons who went into the game after last week’s bye with 12 AFL listed players. Blake Howes was held over for the AFL game but two others, Jack Billings and Taj Woewodin (not officially listed as injured) were also missing and they could have been handy at the end. Another mystery of the current VFL system.

The Demons head back out on the road in Round 10 when they travel to Queensland to take on the reigning Premiers and the top of the table Lions who look very formidable. Can the Dees cause a massive upset? Who comes in and who goes out?

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.
