The Trade/Draft Rumour Mill

Featured Replies

As I said I don't disagree with you at all. My original post was just to ask people who literally only come on here to comment hack or spud to add something worthwhile to the thread, Unfortunately when the MFC declares pick 2 on the table and after a week of no info then people are always going to make something up and try to create a rumour.

I am just looking forward to Nudge's 2013 thread so I don't have to siphon through this thread of chitter chatter and cr*p.

I think he said he wasn't going to do it any more.

Such a shame, his thread last year was probably the best thread of the whole trade/draft period.

Another hack.

Remember: Roos turned Ted Richards into a decent player.

Now I knew Ted Richards as an acquaintance back in the day, and hoped he'd come good eventually... but he was rubbish.

what a joke that the free agent period overlaps the trade period by 2 weeks

how do the dickeads at AFL house expect trades to get done when teams don't even know their compensation picks yet"?

Moronic

That is so true. The AFL have completely ballsed up this free agency period. Clubs will not be looking to make moves until after compensation picks are announced.

They should just update sides on compo that day. It can't be that hard. They know what the criteria is so put it into your little formula and then say here you go here is band 3 pick after so and so. Why do they have to wait until it is all finished? Stupidity.

I think they wait because if a club loses a player it gets a pick but then if it goes and picks up another free agent then the compo changes/is removed.

they have to wait til its finished because if we signed a free agent it would affect the SYlvia compo by making it less

The whole thing is ridiculous

I totally agree. If he can do that for Ted Richards and make LRT look more than competent then Jack Fitzpatrick is a near certainty for all Australian selection

Fitzy arguably has more upside than LRT also. He seems to have a few more tools than LRT and his potential is only starting to be realised

apparently all 17 clubs have written to the AFL commission demanding that MFC get no more than Band 5 for Col Sylvia on the grounds they already have a promising list

Lolz. What band do Hawthorn get then?

Oh right I forgot about the net loss crap. Yep it's ridiculous. Free agency should be one week coz most of the deals are done beforehand.

If we can't trade pick 2 for Dylan Shiel or a 10 year, 200 game midfielder I hope that we explore swapping it for Collingwood's Picks 10 and 11.

We don't need an Aish or Kelly, and 10 and 11 would give us the chance to land Crouch and Freeman/Sheed - ready-to-go inside midfielders.

I heard a Recruiter say the other day that there is a clear 'top 4' or so and then the draft opens up a lot. The Pies might see pick 2 as an opportunity to add the best midfielder in the draft to their list along with Taylor Adams, while we turn pick 2 into 2 inside mids which we desperately need.

Sorry mate, but this has to be one of the worst posts of the year. You don't give up a top #2 pick unless you're getting an A grader back.

Okay... so I was jogging along the track by Warrandyte river yesterday afternoon and this bloke needed a hand getting his kayak out of the river. Gave him a hand and we got chatting, turns out he's a relative of Tom Rockliff's manager. Not sure if I should reveal this but Rockliff is apparently 'signed, sealed and delivered' to the Dees.

Hahaha. One of the best rumours of the trade period so far. A kayak? Hahaha. Rockliff would be amazing though. :P

I would seriously entertain offering Carlton pick 2 for Mitch Robinson..

Would anyone else consider this a viable option??

I like his grunt, ability to kick a goal and most of all his mongrel!

Oh wait. There's a new contender for worst post of the year. :P

We picked Morton as we thought the best Rounded mid. Skinny player who has struggled with the physical demands of AFL football. Very highly rated under 18 junior. AIS Academy, Larke Medalist, All Australian, Senior football experience at WAFL level, WA representative.

We picked Gysberts as the best rounded mid. Skinny player who has struggled with the physical demands of AFL footballer. Highly rated junior, AIS Academy, Vic Metro representative, TAC team of the year.

We picked Lucas Cook as the best round forward. Skinny player who struggled with the physical demands of AFL football. Highy rated AIS Academy, All Australian under 18 Center Half Forward, Vic Country representative.

Sam Blease was picked as a skinny midfielder. Has struggled also with physical demands of AFL with constant injuries and poor consistant form. Highly rated junior who was a AIS Academy and Vic Metro representative.

We picked Jack Watts who was a skinny forward that has struggled to bulk up and live up to his highly rated Junior career. Though I do reckon he will come good but not the big key forward everyone thought he would become. Highly rated AIS Academy, All Australian under 18, Larke Medalist,

Way too many skinny players who were all thought at the time as the best rounded available players.

I've personally spoken to a person at the club and a recruiter from else where that still defend us picking Morton.

Sorry mate, but this has to be one of the worst posts of the year. You don't give up a top #2 pick unless you're getting an A grader back.

Nothing to say that Crouch and Freeman/Sheed won't be A-graders and they are more ready-to-go in 2014 than Aish IMO.

We took Sylvia and McLean because they were ultra competitive contested ball monsters. How did that work out? As you said our midfield is third world inside and out. Get the best rounded player regardless of their current size. Just get it right.

Spot on, BRFE. All those salivating over the likes of Freeman and Crouch, because they've seen a few pictures of them or a YouTube clip, take note. The MFC's drafting philosophies have been cyclical over the past decade or so. Prior to that '03 draft, we lacked a grunt engine room, so the decision was seemingly made to go after well built, stronger players. I'll take well rounded every day, please.

Nudge won't post anymore because half the people here would pay out on him even though his rumours turned out to be true.

remember its a rumour page. Rumours can originate from one staff member at a club, a friend of an agent or player or even from erroneously interpreting something someone has said. And some are clearly just made up.

nudge posted some about us getting Dawes and he was hounded down if I remember. Turned out on the money.

apparently all 17 clubs have written to the AFL commission demanding that MFC get no more than Band 5 for Col Sylvia on the grounds they already have a promising list

I heard from a canoeist in Gardiner's Creek that Fremantle get pick 5 as compensation for taking Sylvia and they plan to re-draft Leigh Brown with it to solve their tall forward problems.

Nothing to say that Crouch and Freeman/Sheed won't be A-graders and they are more ready-to-go in 2014 than Aish IMO.

There's a reason Aish would be going higher than Freeman/Sheed though, mate. I think Brad Crouch looks like an absolute beauty. If his brother is anything like him, I'd love him in our midfield, but I wouldn't be downgrading my top 2 pick to get him. Pick 2 should be reserved for an opposition midfielder we deem worthy of trading for it or elite talent in the draft. Our remaining picks (including the Sylvia compensation pick) should be utilised to improve our draft position if we deem it worthy and viable to get Freeman/Sheed. That said, both of those guys could fall to the end of the first round anyway.

Surely the law of averages means we'll have to get the next pick right if we go to the draft. Get us a mongrel.

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.
