Jimmy Toumpas

Has another year to run on his std draftee contract I believe.

Cant wait for all the posts about hes so under-supported out there and thats why !!

MFC like soft players.

I'd float Toumpas up for trade at years end.

I don't care what anyone says, I see nothing in Toumpas or Trengove, nothing.

When we are in desperate need for footballers, the club drafts Strauss, Gysberts, Cook and then Toumpas.

WE NEED FOOTBALLERS for christs sakes!!!

That is what is wrong with this club, we are still paying for messing up those picks..

I agree.

Make that thrice.

Can they not be traded under that contract?

Ridiculous to think of trading him already. What kind of culture would it create, shipping out teenagers after one season because they aren't tearing the competition to shreds?? That reaks of Mark Neeld-style "ruthlessness" (aka idiocy) to me.

The concern I have over Toumpas at the moment is his inconsistency THROUGH a game. Just goes too long without going near that. However unlike others I see plenty to like and think he will justify early-pick status down the track.

Therein lies our effen problem!!

Down the Morton track? Watts track? Cook track? Toumpas track? Tapscott track?

There aint no tracks left!!!!

Is it really so hard to understand the kid is 18, trying to find his way at AFL level in possibly the worst team of all time?

give the kid a break and how about we judge him in a couple of years time when we actually have some idea?

I think that's a MFCSS outlook on things. Because our early picks in recent years have all flunked, we assume Toumpas will naturally go down the same path. He may, but it's just as likely he will become a gun outside runner like we had originally hoped. Not even one season down, it's far too early to raise the white flag.

We all thought our best 2 players in Nathan Jones and Garland were duds once upon a time don't forget.

You don't get it either.

Time is something that this club may not have!

Wines is an IMPACT player.

its simple and i've said i before

he should have been developing at casey with maybe the odd senior game to give him a feel

just another case of appalling development strategy

what was the hurry? 2013 was always going to be a bad year so why burn a young kid?

What's even scarier, is to ask the kid if he would want to be traded! I reckon he would say yes right now! You don't lose skill and talent, it gets sucked out of you. I am one of his biggest fans, but boy, does that sort of game s__t me. I don't know how many videos I've watched of him running down the wing like he did today, but end up in a goal. Let us remember, he only played 10 Senior SANFL games including the GF, where he was one of the best for his Team.

This Club needs us more than ever NOW. I know its been tough but we have to stick with it. I can't stand this bull that most here go on with. If you don't want to stay loyal during the tough times, just go. Me....I intend to stick around for the good times, they WILL come. We will have an admin that will take us forward and our very young playing group can only get better (can't it?). Bring in some new talent, blend it with this year's crop, teach them well, get them fit....lets see where we go from there.

We didn't draft wines, we have Jimmy Toumpas, he has bucket loads of ability, so let's not throw this kid to the sharks because he hasn't got ten best on grounds in his first ten games.

Granted.

But, here was a kid that was available, a big, strong, clearance player and we picked the wrong one!

Jonesy and Col were much maligned, but they played their early games with rigour and love for the contest.

We are so scarred by bad draft picks, we're not even prepared to admit that the recruiters [censored] it up again.

As soon as you bring this repressed trauma to the surface, D26, you'll feel better.

FFS a first year player thrown to the wolves. In a good side he would be still developing in the VFL. On schedule to be another ruined high draft pick. I hope the new regime wil save him from oblivion.

I honestly don't believe they did, i stand by the opinion Toumpas is going to be a gun, i think his output would be up 20% if he was in a better team, certainly not a horrible decision when we already had viney,

what makes you think wines would be any better in this team?

Because he loves to COMPETE.

In a good side he would be spoon fed by senior players thus building his confidence and everyone would be raving about him

Toumpas is mentally weak and not cut out to play AFL football - at least not for MFC.

Maybe in a top side he'd be a really good player, but mentally it's too much for him at Melbourne.

It does happen to some players and recruiters need to look on a psychological level - as well as externally.

We missed Ollie Wines and that will continue to be a shame, but we need to look forward and identify players who will take us forward.

Really happy with both Jones, Terlich, Viney, these types run a different mind set to a lot of our other blokes.

And, we didn't pick Toumpas to get nursed through the VFL, if he isn't up to it, then he won't be after a stint in the VFL.

What happened to Gysberts, Cook, Morton, Strauss? They were soft and no matter how much VFL they played - they were never up to it.

Melbourne football club pick soft players and I don't care if others defend some of them, I can't defend some players anymore, they are not up to it, Toumpas is one.

You listen to a joel selwood talking about how they would give a young bloke the ball at every opportunity to back themselves in, our leaders like trenners and grimes don't get enough of the ball themselves as it is, let alone dishing it off, it's really an unfair playing field for poor Jimmy.

Tell me which young Geelong player doesn't go hard, regardless of Selwood? Go....

I didn't say they don't go hard, but confidence is one thing we clearly lack compared to their players, if toumpas was there he'd get far more support, players would go out of their way to get him the ball to build his confidence, senior gun players would demonstrate on field what is expected and required to be good AFL players, we have none of the above.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
