Only 2 players in the Top 100

According to the AFL Player Rankings we only have 2 players in the Top 100 of the competition and only 5 in the top 200.

The Official AFL Player Ratings is the most sophisticated, detailed and wide-ranging statistical system ever devised for AFL footy.

To come up with the ratings, we record each kick, mark and handball in every game played but also where on the ground those possessions took place, whether or not the player was under pressure and whether the disposal hit the target.

Other crucial elements, such as chasing, corralling, perceived and actual physical pressure to assess each player’s impact in creating or disrupting scoring chains, are also collated.

The ratings are further explained here: http://www.afl.com.au/stats/player-ratings/ratings-explained

That sounds about right at the moment. Our side has been playing poorly therefore our player ratings would suck. Once the side is playing better the ratings will go up.

It's hard to argue with that assessment. In moments of quiet depression I wonder about how many Brownlow votes the club has on the board to this point.

I actually agree and think 2 in the top 100 is pretty spot on. Wouldn't have been too surprised if we had zero players in the top 100

100% agreement from me AE.

Surprised we got one!

Jack Watts - 139

James Frawley - 261

Now we've established that you can pretty much disregard these rankings.

I'd imagine Nathan Jones would be in the Top 100, but I can't for the life of me think of anyone else that would be in double figures.

James Frawley 261

Arguably the best key defender in the game

these rankings are a joke

l'd reckon about 3 or 4

I am astonished, where are we on the ladder...oh that's right

and they pick Sylvia...fmd !!!

Frawley off the grid.. and Hi Ho on his horse.

There is no god

In an 18 team competition, that's an average of only 5.5 players per club, so it's to be expected that the bottom teams like MFC will only have a couple of players who make the list. So only having two players make that list is no more damning than what we already know about where the club is currently placed.

Who cares about such rankings!

All I want is for the MFC to actual win some more AFL games.

My question, when we win number 13 - will we mind how any players are in the top 100?

  • AFLW PREVIEW: West Coast

Epic battle alert.  This Sunday, Casey Fields hosts a coach’s showdown pitting the wits of the master Mick Stinear (92 games, 71.7% win rate) against his protégé Daisy Pearce (16 games, 43.8%). Still early in her coaching journey, Daisy’s record doesn’t yet reflect her impact — but she’s already the best-performed coach at West Coast.Dais’ is mythic.  Like Katniss Everdeen, everyone either wants to kiss her, kill her (sporting metaphor) or be her.  Toothers Daisy Pearce is a role model, someone admired for their heart, humility and humour.

  • AFLW REPORT: Port Adelaide

Well, that was a shock. The Demons 4-game unbeaten run came to a grinding halt in a tense, scrappy affair at the sunny, windy Alberton Oval, with the Power holding on for a 2-point win. The Dees had their chances—plenty of them—but couldn't convert when it mattered most. Port’s tackling pressure rattled the Dees, triggering a fumble frenzy and surprising lack of composure from seasoned players.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.
