timmyo64 44 Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 Let the mayhem begin Melbourne coach Mark Neeld has been sacked, and now the Dees want premiership mentor Paul Roos
prymke19 42 Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 We will get Roos, I'll back it for sure now. We (afl) will give him whatever he needs to make it work.
Curry & Beer 5,444 Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 'left the door ajar' sounds a lot better than that for mine, sounds like he is saying yep I'll take it on just make sure there is plenty of $$$$$$$ "In some ways it's the great coaching challenge" That's it Roosy, that's the angle this is brilliant, for once we might get somebody bona fide with serious runs on the board around the place
dazzledavey36 56,372 Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 Wowee what a complete turn around! This is our chance make it happen melbourne!
What 18,810 Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 "The thought of coaching Melbourne doesn't scare me, not the club itself or any other club," he said. "In some ways it's the great coaching challenge, but you have got to be thinking like a coach to take it on if you are going to do that role." Buckle up folks.
Red&BlueBlood 61 Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 So everything else the HUN writes is crap but this isn't? I would dance the happy dance if we got him but I don't think it will happen. Clarkson is where we should be sending our dollars.

Red&BlueBlood 61 Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 Ok, so they are quoting Roo's... Fair Play I'm gun shy of getting my hopes up, also I do have a thoughts that if Neelds hard line approach didn't work how will Roo's, Clarkso, Eade or Choc Willams meant to? You can only hope they scare the sh!t out of the players and get some results... Either way I'm pretty tired... I miss footy, I miss not getting flogged week in week out... But still I can't help but think it wasn't Neelds fault it was the players.

Roo's instills the qualities in individuals, qualities that are necessary to succeed. Really impressive listening to Roo's on On the Couch. As a commentator I can't stand Roo's - especially in Sydney games, but as a football mind and a bloke who knows organizations and how to build successful organizations, Roo's knows his stuff.
Adam The God 30,752 Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 Malcolm Blight anyone? We have to be sure he is in this 100 per cent. Fortunately, Roos says as much himself in those quotes.

Sir Why You Little 37,474 Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 It's Roos or Clarkson for mine at a mill a year. Let's go. I have been waiting for this since '73 when RDB went to Nought. It's our time. The AFL WANT IT. It's time for the Northern Stand to roar again.

Clarkson is where we should be sending our dollars. Sooooo more chance of getting a contracted coach shooting for a premiership whose agent has said "no way", than a former coach working part time in the media who seems open to it? Hmmmmmm......
angrydee 842 Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 every man has his price. Hogan is waiting in the wings... Malcolm Blight says hello.
Bonkers 994 Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 every man has his price. Hogan is waiting in the wings... If Roos coaches again it won't be about money. It would be about whether the challenge gets him excited & whether he is motivated or interested in coaching full time, the effect on his life etc. The club will have to sort itself off the field if we are any hope. One thing is for sure the club needs to find something that it aspires to or wants to represent because at the moment the club doesn't really have a football philosophy or identity. Roos would definitely bring this as he did at Sydney.
Jack Jack Tappy 112 Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 Ok, so they are quoting Roo's... I miss footy, I miss not getting flogged week in week out... But still I can't help but think it wasn't Neelds fault it was the players. Really!! Neeld has nearly the worst record in history. Surely it's up to him to get the players motivated. From the start he treated them like shite. It's impossible for them to ignore their fellow players being humiliated in front of the group without them realising this could not only happen to them at any minute but also how to respect the coach doing it. His first game against Brisbane he gave steph Martin a bake at half time that none of the players had ever seen. There has been a lot of humiliation of individual players in front of the group including vision on the field. He is delusional or lying.
Rhino Richards 1,467 Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 FMD. Roos has stated categorically that he is not interested in coaching repeatedly. I guess the more he is asked this the more it stirs the simple minded that he must be interested. And the wing nuts that claim "every man has his price" seem to forget that we are going cap in hand to the AFL for money. We can't pay stupid sums for a coach and money alone does not guarantee an outcome.
Johnny Jimbo 26 Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 I F***ing hate Roos, TV goes on mute the instant that parrot opens his mouth, but I'd put all that behind me if he pulled Melbourne out of the hole we're in.
Straight Sets Simon 23,113 Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 Hate him on TV, love to have him in the coaches box. Interesting to hear Eade say he would consider the job and I would be surprised if Mark Williams wasn't interested. Not long ago the "experts" on radio were saying "who would even want to coach Melbourne?"
Whispering_Jack 31,368 Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 Not long ago the "experts" and the "naysayers" were also saying that nobody would want to take the CEO's job and suddenly Peter Jackson emerged with enthusiasm about "taking on the challenge". The same will happen with the coach's job for precisely the same reason. It will be well paid and a challenge that those who are brave enough will dare to take on. As far as Roos is concerned however, the issue is not so much one of taking on the challenge but rather, the wife and family. Heard she's not keen on a move to Melbourne (the city) for personal reasons and that she will therefore prevail. The scenario should make for some interesting but contrived discussion on On the Couch in the coming months.
