Rodan was brought in more in a mentoring/off field role for Jack Viney

Sorry

Craig had input into getting Rodan to the club, sorry

Yes the quality is certainly showing.. isn't it ?? You named only two players on your "deadwood" list.. You have left off a few haven't you ? naming only those two is probably a little harsh..

Mate,

In all seriousness stop kicking a man while he is down, it is utterly pathetic. MN is gone and it was the people above him who employed him. A man has just lost his job and his livelihood. Yeah he gets paid out next year but his days as a senior coach are over. He may have been over his head but there’s a away to go about things are you have missed the mark by a country mile. MN is gone, be relieved but if you believe the problem is fixed you’re kidding yourself.

At least Magner will get a game this week,Neil Craig loves him.

No more games for Rodan,Bail,Nicho,Gillies,

There's no guarantees on that but yes, Magner (and even Gawn and Taggert) might have a little pep in his step after this morning's announcement.

Why dont we engage Garry Lyon to head the committee to find a new coach- Just Kidding

Seriously though this appointment is make or break for the club

We just have to get it right

What do people think should be the process Should we look for a steady hand Roos / Matthews or Buy a Clarkson

Its sickens me that again, we have to make another knee jerk reaction which we have been doing for the past 10 years. As soon as someone comes in to clean up the place and things get a little tough, we back down from standing tall, defiant and strong. We go and sack the coach.

Newsflash champ

we also sacked the CEO and president, and soon the board will be gone too.

Its a total clean out and it had to happen

GO DEMONS

IN PJ WE TRUST

A friend of mine is good friends with one of the players and he had said that the playing group loved Neeld as a person but not as a coach. They didn't believe the game plan would work for them. Obviously not sure if true but thought I would share this....

Jackson was involved in appointing Knights as coach at Essendon. Knights lost the players after a promising start and the game plan was all out attack no defending at all. I hope Knights doesn't get the job but l think he will be on your short list.

From an outsiders view Eade as the coach , maybe Ayres as a senior assistant , McDonald returns to Melbourne in some capacity and some people fresh out of the game.

Only bad thing with Jackson was the Knights appointment which was a major balls up.

Just because he may have gone for Knights last time doesn't mean he will this time. In fact, I'd say almost certainly he wouldn't. We will go with someone experienced, with a better record than 33%. That is Knights' record is it not?

Craig is by far the most experienced, he is also the higest paid and most qualified, and quite frankly has a lot to prove.

I don't doubt that his position at the club is under review, and here is his chance to prove he is worth the paycheck and the title.

He doesn't need to win big, and in fact, I expect he won't, but much of what he does now will impact his future at our club.

Assistants are just that, Rawlings is not likely to become our senior coach, but he could be a good assistant, so why burn him?

The assistants will plead their own case to the new coach.

Should be very interesting how we now go. I rate Craig.

Many I suspect will automatically feel that as Neelds mentor there would not be much difference but I would counter that Craigs role as mentor was to work with the man as he dealt with the role not so much as to impart his thoughts of what ought or not be done or anything really to do with gameplans.

Now he is cut loose to utilse the list as he sees fit.. I have a whim that he will jiggle the Dees a bit.

Im not sure what really can be accomplished in a week but im intrigued.

I agree

So what has he been doing during the Neeld debacle to a) Jutify his salary and B) justify his continuance

Surely he is a part of the problem either by not rocking the boat or just snoozing while the club imploded on field

I will be the first to say it - ''Sack Craig"' hhahhaahahhhahaha

Riding his Watt bike...

I agree with a lot of what you say... I sincerely hope that some of the factors you have pointed out are contributing.. I will be happy to be wrong in my observations.. Would be good for the MFC. and for my future hopes for the Dees.

Me too Soxy , at least it gives me some hope to cling on too . B)

All of us here just want what is best for the Melbourne Football Club !!

If the MFC could harness the passion shown here on this Forum then we would all be a lot better of, all round ;)

With the ball and chain gone, I guarantee we will win some games in the 2nd half of the year and Craig will have us playing with flair.

Its going to be very interesting to see the stats from now on, and if we become more even in disposals instead of having 120 less per week.

It is amazing bb that this is what our interest in the 2013 season has come done to.

God deliver us!

I hope that Neeld reflects on the contribution he has made to the football club and when we turn the corner takes some pride in what he did while he was here. I am positive that the forward line he put together of Dawes, Clark and Hogan will be a potent attacking force when they finally get to play together. The fitness regime and Mission has been a big change and one for the better. He also oversaw the rebuild of of recruiting which I think apart from Gillies has been good compared to the previous years including the additon of Terlich, M Jones, Kent, Toumpas and Viney. I also recon Byrnes and Rodan have been very useful given our obvious lack of experience and depth.

I wish him all the best and hope his next gig is a lttle bit easier. In hindsight he was nuts to take the job.

Well he is only an interim coach but I can remember the style of footy Adelaide played ( robotic ) and how he got shafted out of there.

As a future coach no way.

I seem to remember Adelaide having been quite successful... Must have been some other Adelaide I was thinking of

Too early and probably impractical contractually. Then there's the players to consider as well. But after the dust has settled following the appointment of new coach for 2014 (assuming we do and the new coach is open to it) any realistic chance of Neeld as mid field line coach taking over from Royal?

Give me robotic any day if it means 5 straight finals appearances, including 3 Prelims.

But yes, hes obviously not going to be our future coach. (Choco or CLarkson step right up!)

Where is my reference to Mark Neeld in that post ?? I was replying to a post which referred to getting rid of two named players on our list (as deadwood) .. Cannot see the relevance of your remarks ?? I have never implied the problem is fixed as you further claimed ?? You have the wrong guy.. WTF ? I never "kick" anyone "while he is down" P.s. MN didn't look or act like a man who is down today in the press conference  Some have called it class.. I prefer to look at it as relief ... Mark Neeld has always appeared to me to be a nice guy ... :(

Yes they had a couple of good years first off but it really plunged for him near the end.

I can remember we beat Adelaide by 90 something points in 2011.
