More than anything else at the moment we need credibility - with fans, with the media, with the players, with the AFL. This adds up to HOPE. Kennet has the smarts, and the drive to turn the ship around. He also knows how ruthless you need to be to get to the top, whether it be in a State, a company, or a football club. I have dealt with him in business, and as a board member he is the most astute, insightful, demanding, arrogant, and ruthless director I have ever dealt with.

Isn't this what we desperately need, and which the MFC has so singularly lacked for decades.

If you want to retain players, and sign talented new ones this is the way to do it. He gets my vote. I think it is a fantastic idea.

Jeff is an agent of change. Regardless of whether you like his politics or his football presidency, wherever he goes things change.Most of those changes bring improvement.

He is brusque, has a passionate, loose tongue and is an autocrat.

He steps on toes and honestly couldn't give a stuff for the people he hurts.

He causes as many difficulties as he solves, just not in the areas he is responsible for.

I have met him on a number of occasions at a professional level, and although he has almost no social conscience he is one of the sharpest, most alert individuals I have spoken with. We need a person exactly like Jeff.

Will he bully people? Yes

Will he draw in the best personnel? Yes

Will he demand success? Yes

He will NOT merger Melbourne. If he became president he would be 100% devoted and would do anything to improve the brand. He is selfish in this way. His professional reputation would be at stake and that is one thing he will not compromise.

The only question mark is this: he does not barrack for Melbourne. Is it possible to be fully professional when he has a heart for the Hawks? I can't answer this yet.

A quick poll of my Melbourne member friends. Not one was against the idea of Jeff becoming President.

I believe that if Jeff announced a ticket and forced a EGM he would win.

I call on Jeff to do just that. A support group will be quickly mobilised.

If he becomes Chairman I have no doubt it will be to have Melbourne thrive in its own right and I'm sure he'll enunciate that. Merging if he was Chairman is the least of my worries. If he really thought Melbourne should merge he wouldn't take on the Chairmanship.

Surely with all the blue blood Melbourne elite we hae supporting this club there is a smart educated rational businessman/woman to take on the job if Mclardy goes.

The problem isn't just his personality BH. It's how his personality impacts his brusque, tactless and inflexible management style. Victoria was a different beast when he took over. Cain wanted to cut spending and reduce the size of the public sector but the unions wouldn't allow him to do so. Victoria needed a more autocratic style of leadership in those days. In those days, there was too much consultation with a certain group when the silent majority was being ignored. What happened after 186 (I'm starting to sound like WYL) was that the playing groups concerns were mothballed and consultation was put in shade. We need to become a club that is respectful of all opinions, not just those of a select few.

Right now, we have the footy club in way too many different camps: those who were with the playing group during the reign of Schwab and those who were mates of the CEO, those who were pro-merger or anti-merger, those who were with Gutnick and those who were not. Some might think that those last two are old hat but I can guarantee there are those in the club who still hold enmities over these old battles. There needs to be some reconciliation between these groups and I think a bloke who once offered to sleep with the female contestants of a Greek beauty pageant and who was caught on a mobile phone describing a conversation with John Howard that was far from harmonious might not have the people skills to smooth over these personality clashes.

I'll always remember when Jeff Kennett poured sand on a print out of the MFC's mascot at a Hawks function - representing how Melbourne is going under.

Considering that, his merging statements, and how he is the most outspoken man in Australia (see most recent example of him calling GWS the AFL's Gallipoli today) I wouldn't want him to have anything to do with the club.

To be honest, I would be in the IWS camp if Kennett came to power. It would sicken me to think we had officially become the club of Melbourne's Liberal party establishment. If Kennett, Big Ron Walker and Alan Stockdale came to power, the blazers should be kept on because they would be highly appropriate.

Yes a well known technique. But why combine it with a statement saying that the Demitriou's/AFL plans for GWS is an idiotic mistake. Just the way to make friends with the AFL! Those fingerprints appear pretty faint to me.
