Simon Black Midfield Coach?

I love the idea of getting Black down, i wonder if he would be worth considering on a one year deal as a playing coach like Luke power at GWS? Would give us some great on field experience and a short term contribution leading into a coaching career with what should be a good emerging midfield

As soon as I saw Black on the news tonight I said lets get him as a midfield coach. Brownlow medalist, 3 flags and norm smith plus im assuming all Australian. Fresh out of the game he would be perfect. Imagine what Viney and Toumpas and both Jacks could learn off him.

He would be way better then Royal.

Good suggestions here fellas. I like the list of (in order):

1. Ling

2. Ratten

3. Junior

4. Black

(Of course it's a list of those who are a possibility, not a dream list as such)

Studies seriously think you should display a GIF to back up your theory?

Dew has been offered a "beefed up" midfield coaching role, so if he stays is Black going to be his assistant; I wonder.

It seems now that Dew has signed on at the Swans, it will pave the way for Black to join the Dees as midfield coach/ Successor

Not really. Dew moved from stoppages to midfield coach taking Tudor's role. Black can move into Tudor's old role as stoppages coach. They are the kind of successions we would like to make.

You mean Black to take over Dew's old role? If that were to be the case and Black took over Dew's old role as well as signing Dew and Buddy, then we really must be going up against some serious brown paper bag shenanigans.

Separate budget.

I'm suspicious of Black or even Brown's credentials for coaching.

The recent attempted exodus of young talent is apparently due to a lack of empathy and an inclusive culture, mainly from the senior player leadership.

I think if either of these supposed leaders had any potential as coaches, they probably should have avoided this scenario entirely.

They may not have been able to do it on their own, but they should have been driving it.

Yes sorry that's what I meant. And I wouldn't think so. Most players, no matter how good don't take over line coaching straight away. They usually go into development. Taking over the swans stoppages would be a respected position considering the talent available. Despite the COLA it seems Sydney is a great place to live (particularly short term) and it's not like Black is short of cash. If I was him and wanted to coach it would almost be the perfect first job. Could move and be a more senior assistant and midfield coach down the track on way to senior job

Latest on Black if you've not read it yet.

http://www.afl.com.au/news/2013-10-16/black-call-imminent

Born in QLD, raised in WA, played for Brisbane, started his coaching career at MFC?

I admit that idea of Black becoming a coach is purely based on the logic that he's played over 300 games, won three flags, bagged a Brownlow and a Norm Smith medal along the way and is a 3 time All Australian and club Captain.

As far as retired players looking to move into coaching, there's hardly a better candidate. A fair chance Leppa keeps him at Brisbane as a coach if he decides not to play on but if that doesn't happen I would be very impressed to have at Melbourne.

    DERAILMENT by KC from Casey

It wasn’t quite a trainwreck although at times, it sure looked like one, so I’ll settle for “derailment”.  The trip to Brighton Homes Arena in Springfield outside the back of Brisbane might not exactly be the same place where Homer Simpson’s family resides but, if you listened closely to the utterances of the Casey Demons fans both at the ground or watching via livestream, you could hear lots of groaning and plenty of expressions of “D'oh!” reverberating in the background, particular

TEN YEARS AFTER by Whispering Jack

Things have changed in the more than ten years since the West Coast Eagles decimated Melbourne by 93 points on the MCG early in the 2014 season. The two sides had not met at the home of football in the interim until yesterday when Melbourne won by a comfortable 54 points to remain in contention for this year’s finals series. Back in those days, the Demons were in the midst of their Great Depression but they have since tasted premiership glory and experienced a long enough period among

GAMEDAY: Rd 17 vs West Coast

It’s game day and the Demons return to Melbourne to play the Eagles at the MCG for the first time in over a decade. A win keeps the Dees finals hopes alive whereas a loss will almost certainly slam the finals window shut.

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well
