Nathan Jones

Featured Replies

As I just sent to Finey on SEN through SMS:

"When are we going to give Nathan Jones some credit?

Any other side he'd be hailed as being A-grade but at the Dees he goes unnoticed by the media and sometimes sadly the fans.

He is a consistent star and has been for a few years now."

Just loved when he and Sylvia link up - happened a couple times out of the center.

If there is one person that can inspire/teach Sylvia to play to his full potential it is Jones.

I just wish he could take all the players under his wing (like a mother hen - should be captain!) .. imagine a Viney, Sylvia and Watts training with the intent of Jones.

Absolutely love him. Love his self belief, even when there were doubters of which I was one early days. A great example as to how to get the most out of yourself through bloody hard work.

Easily the best player we have had since Neitz was annihilating teams from 2002-2006

If he played for Collingwood he'd be talked about as one of the best mids going around, he has very little help alot of the time and is so often the only shining light we have

consistent performer but not in neitz's league at all

I was listening to the Triple M call at the game today and they were onboard Jonesy in a big way.

The Chu-man (statistician) pointed out that he leads the competition, the whole competition ffs, in centre clearances. We might have been a bit down on ourselves lately, but this should not go unheralded.

Sorry to be picky but not sure why you mention Viney?

Jones is a gun. Hes our best player and leading the way every game.

He is setting the standard for the rest to follow.

Jonesy is a star of the whole comp dont care what the media say... on ya mate keep it going.

Had a hard tag today too. He needs to ensure he's aware of his limitations, but his consistency and heart cannot be questioned.

when the media applauds certain individuals it is done largely to kiss the arses of clubs with the most supporters. These clubs are by no coincidence the same ones that get the prime time fixturing and generally win a lot. If you happen to play for one of these teams your reputation is a lot larger than what it is you play for Melbourne or another minnow club. This is why a player like Hurley gets talked about as if he is Wayne Carey. It's also why you have Bruce McAveney swooning over 'Stevie J' , (who incidentally is a complete toss bag of a bloke) why does he have that pet name, can we please have our own Nathy J?. I would like to see Joel Free Kick Selwood lead the comp in centre clearances at Melbourne and we'd see if your average Joe rates him so highly, not a chance in hell... /end rant

That is an amazing stat considering Jamar has been puss all year.

Hard work is paying off for him.

Champ.

They will improve when you leave.

Hope you haven't told her about your obsession with me.

Selwood is an absolute gun. Did you see his game the other night? If he'd started at the MFC though, he'd be nowhere near the player he is. I'm very envious of GFC and their ability to instil a wonderfully strong culture. :P

Selwood is a superstar and has rightfully earned the praise he receives. Ridiculous to suggest otherwise.

you're being far too apologetic towards a poor team.

If Melbourne were up and going, or at the least a decent side of the North variety, the media would lap it up.

The media focuses on good teams, not necessarily big ones.

Cotchin went unnoticed for a while there while Richmond languised.

Did anyone hear of Swan pre-2006?

With success comes respect. if you're a good player in a crap team, no one cares.

The best thing for Jones is to just keep the eye on the prize rather than lap up good games against teams still with a pacifier in their mouth and expect to be noticed. When this team is flying, he will be the league's poster boy, bookmark it.

He'll get his time.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.
