Melbourne football Club should take a leaf out of Richmonds book

Featured Replies

I wish we had a player like Steven Morris. He shows more attack and desperation for the footy than anybody on our list. These are the kind of players we need to recruit.

Jerry, I think we have started with Jones, Terlich etc

I like those two, and we may be on the right path there, but neither set a tone or standard for attacking the footy, or a will to not get beaten by your man like Morris does. The guy is an animal.

True - that's because he's hungry!!

I think he got overlooked for 2 or 3 drafts??

Some of our players should take a leaf out of his desperation book.

They hired a coach who was a very good footballer and won flags at 2 clubs

Remind me again what Bailey and Neeld did in their playing careers? Nothing thats what

Agree ! We got it wrong not taking hardwick over bailey .... Hindsight is excellent though.

That said I still think our board / administration / football department would have wrecked what hardwick could have done.

Explain how you trade players off for decent picks when no one wants them?

We could have atleast snared a 3rd rounder for Morton and pushed real for a 2nd rounder with Gysberts. I felt we just let them go just to get them out of the club asap.

Mate, you are absolutely kidding yourself.

Take a leaf out of Richmond's book?

Pick Tambling above Buddy?

Pick up Adaam Maric, Miller, etc from us?

Why take a leaf, we've taken the whole goddam tree!

We have a strong history of spuds.

Was based more on recruiting wise. They will be top 8 this year possibly top 6 then push top 4 next year. Mark my words.

Man. they said that about us a couple of years ago.

How about we wait until Richmond actually makes the finals before we declare them the yardstick?

Remind me what sort of players Alan Jeans, Denis Pagan and even Malthouse were?

I'll give you a hint, ordinary as in not that good but put in hard.

There are about 10 flags right there.

Clearly not a well thought out, researched post.

Terlich stood out a couple of times on the members wing for his attack on the ball - very encouraging

Take a leaf out of Richmonds book? BA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HAAAAAAAAAA!

In the time they have been a joke we have made finals many times and competed in two grand finals...

Tell me....what have Richmond done...apart from keep their crappy Eat em Alive banner in the cheersquad...(How Original)...

Ok...so their themesong is good...but thats all..

Poor comment DazzleDavey..

I just think since he has taken over he has built up there list really well. Forget about all the past with the Tambliing Franklin blunder ours is just as worse.. but you gotta admire the way Hardwick has built his team. Drafting kids that are physically ready to play and plus recruits that are still young and have made an instant impact.

So what you are saying is that you are willing to give Hardwick 4 years to get it right, but Neeld only 1 and a bit, great

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.
