Haha who said anything about paying millions? Yeah let's just pass on a superstar cos he's coming back from an injury 18 months before we'd go after him...

They're both the same age, but Betts has been the sole true forward option for a decent performing team and Le Cras for a very poor but then very good team. In their last 3 seasons Betts has kicked 150, Le Cras has kicked 168. As a crumbing forward i don't think the ACL he's coming back from (after having the full operation and recovery, no short cuts) will hinder him like it would a high leaping big forward. If you look at their output there's not a huge difference, so to bag someone's footy knowledge for edging out Le Cras over Betts is stupidity, which is your usual standard.

Ones coming back from a serious knee injury and the others fully fit, your posts reeks of stupidity, there both great players stuie but a healthy fit non injured Betts destroys a an ACL riddled Le Cras any day of the week, and by the way how much do you think it would cost us to get him to move from the Eagles?

I'm guessing it would cost the same as getting Betts... Especially seeing as Carlton wouldn't want to give up they're only performing forward.

Tell you what mate, if Le Cras doesn't play well this year I'll change my name here to stupid for a month, if he does then, well you won't have to change yours as it's synonymous with stupidity.

Stuie and stupid are pretty close.

Damn right we are, you won't leave me alone...

I'd have Eddie sitting in the pocket.

Reports say he is asking 600k a year, no way, but we might give him more than the blues.

He would kill it under Clark. Dawes Hogan. With Howe and Watts running through.

worth a serious thought with a good coach.

He aint worth $600k's so good luck with that dream Eddie.

Little Stuies what type of season has LeCras had.

Might've made it up, but was it Roos that commented on the weekend that a couple of teams (may have included the Swans), were shying away from a true small forward?

Regardless, Betts is a very interesting one. Obviously not worth the dollars he's asking, has also had a shocker this year, but given the firepower of our forward line next year, and compare it to what Carlton have got, he'd be a better player for us, but is that good enough?

I don't regard Betts as the type of small forward we need.

He is more a lead-up player and would get a fair share of his goals from marks. He can crumb, and he has pace, but I don't think he is at the same level in these two attributes as the better small forwards in the competition. I also think he lacks that element of magic and X factor that the better small forwards have.

We have marking power in our forward line but a genuine lack of pace and X factor at ground level.

Betts, for me, would not fulfil this role.

I agree with this thought, a true small forward is worth jack...

Apart from your back 3, pretty much everyone else is a mid these days. The Milne/Betts type small forward offers nothing.

I must be thinking off a different Eddie Betts.

Yeh, Eddie will be amazing when we kick the ball inside 50 for the 2nd time at the 30 minute mark of a quarter....

I don't think Betts works hard enough defensively.

I think he is one of the players holding Carlton back, and we don't want that.

Little Stuies what type of season has LeCras had.

Considering he broke his arm early on and has played much of the season with it in a protective casing, while averaging 16 possessions, 5.1 marks (career best) and kicking 25 goals (just under 2 goals a game), I would say not too bad at all.

So similar stats to Howe.

So similar stats to Howe.

Maybe, but Howe hasn't had the broken arm to contend with.

The debate at the start was about injuries, read the posts properly.

Yes, and the ACL did not affect his game... the broken arm did and yet he still managed reasonable stats considering. You asked the question of Stuie about what kind of season LeCras had... I decided it was worth pointing out.

And considering you were rubbishing Stuie's understanding of AFL as he was suggesting he would rather LeCras over Betts, you might like to know that Betts 2013 stats are considerably worse than LeCras'... averaging 10 possessions, 2.5 marks and kicking 17 goals at an average of 1.5.

he wants 600k a year, no thanks

600 is way to much for betts.... He's not that good...

I'd rather Garlett over betts....

get dayle garlett in the draft and use the 600 k on a mid

  • Thank You Simon Goodwin

As Demon fans, we’ve ridden a rollercoaster of emotions over the decades; the heartbreaks, the near misses, the wooden spoons, and the endless waiting. But through it all, we clung to hope. And then came Simon Goodwin. Before he ever wore red and blue, he was a champion in his own right. A five-time All-Australian, two-time Best and Fairest, and two-time premiership hero and Captain with Adelaide, Simon Goodwin was always destined to lead. When he transitioned from the field to the coach's box, first as an assistant at Essendon, he began shaping a new legacy.

  • PREVIEW: Western Bulldogs

Long ago and far away, the Melbourne Football Club replaced its coach in difficult circumstances after the team suffered a devastating loss. In the aftermath, I penned the following words: “Then came the politics, the intrigue, the axing, the sound of the football world laughing at a club, the circling of the media vultures, the reinvention of history, the anger, the irony, the pathos, the hurt on the face of the president, the dignified departure of the coach, and the determination of the newly appointed caretaker.” Today, we’re back in the same place although one difference here is that the coach who was terminated this time is Simon Goodwin, the man who four years ago

  • REPORT: West Coast

The Charles Dickens novel, A Tale of Two Cities, opens with, “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, …”  This phrase highlights many of the significant challenges that humanity encounters in life, ranging from experiencing remarkable highs to living in times of despair. This is a concept that should resonate with all supporters of the Melbourne Football Club this morning as they reflect on its comprehensive 83-point victory over the struggling West Coast Eagles at Marvel Stadium. The outcome proved beyond doubt that they are the worst of clubs and that we are the best of the worst.
