West Coast have proved that if you can find a couple of handy mature forward pocket rockets in Liam Ryan and Willie Rioli then they can make a huge difference to a forward structure with their speed and defensive pressure.

Since Liam Jurrah the next best was Jeff Garlett and his 2017 year borderline All Australian.

Both were selected in the national draft - Ryan in the second round and Rioli early in the fourth.  Just goes to show that if you look hard enough, and are willing to take a bit of a punt, then those small forwards are out there.

Betts, at 32, shouldn't be someone we're looking at.

Agree mate,

I'd rather back our recruitment team to see if we can pick up the next Liam Ryan or Sydney Stack.

My only concern is since the Liam Jurrah saga we have cooled on being bold with our recruitment in players of this caliber.

I have mixed views on our no DH policy.

It's Game Day and the Demons return to the MCG after a dismal performance in Gather Round to face the reigning dual Premiers Brisbane. What do expect to see from the Dees today?

  • PREVIEW: Brisbane

They really had me fooled when I picked them with great confidence to beat the Bombers at Gather Round last week. I should have recognised that nothing is more quintessentially Melbourne than defeating the undefeated early premiership favourite one week and losing to a winless cellar dweller on its way to establishing a record losing streak the next.
