Maybe it is simply MM knowing what everyone else knows

Judd is not a natural leader and like a lot of clubs do simply choose the teams best player

Collingwood made what most of us thought was a strange choice in Nick Maxwell but we know why now

Being a great player has very little to do with team leadership qualities

When i look at Carlton i think names like Nicholls and Kernerhan as standouts

Even Mike Fitzpatrick was a good captain without being outstanding and miles in front of Judd

Whitten is the best captain i have seen and no surprise why he was selected as the TOC captain

Judd mightnt have been as great a leader as he was a player but he has done a fair job over the past 5 years and for alot of that time carried a young Carlton on his back. He is a proven match winner and has often stepped up to change a game when required. Its a pity that others did not follow his lead.

He has had 5 years in the job and while not at his stellar best, can still be a damaging player. Not unusual for a new coach to change captains.

Be interesting to see who the natural replacement. IMHO I dont think there is a ready replacement.....oh yeah beside Brock.

If you look at the number of incidents that have dogged him; in particular those that resulted in him being suspended (or in the Pavlich case where he should have been suspended) he exhibited some traits which are anything but indicative of the quality of a leader. The eye gouging, the chicken winging and the sniping might suggest frustration but his reactions were costly to both him and the club. He can now concentrate on his own game as his otherwise illustrious career runs down.

Carlton would do well to consider a Carazzo but who am I to judge the ultimate decision on that club's skipper? Best to leave that task to young Brock.

    REDEEMING by Meggs

    It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill.     Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval.     DRUBBING by Meggs

    With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.
