Jai Sheahan moved on?

Featured Replies

A lot of good moves so far in the off season but this is one the mfc got wrong

It sounds like list managment. The club took a look at all their talls (and assume they get Pederson for pick 49ish) and decided to cut the number 12 tall on their list. He played well in some matches for Casey, but struggled to hold his spot at times.

Moving on Sheahan can free up a spot for another promising mid.

Hopefully it's a win-win for both parties.

I had a bit of a chat with Jai at the Demon's family day earlier this year while we were waiting in line for the Scenic Railway at Luna Park. Wasn't really sure who he was until he signed my daughters footy. I was struck by what a nice bloke he was. I had a bit of a Seinfeld moment with him though when I asked if he remembered the Big Dipper. He said he did. I went on to tell him how I rode the Big Dipper quite a few times in my day, what an awesome ride the Big Dipper was, and how nobody mentions the Big Dipper much now since the "accident". He looked at me kind of weird and the conversation kind of finished up. Didn't occur to me until much later he was probably too young to remember the ride but not too young to remember Robert Dipierdomenico.

I imagine you would be a little bit saddle sore after a ride on the Greek Machine.

Very funny anecdote.

It's amazing when you launch into a story and realise after a few minutes that the listener has NFI what you are on about or thinks you are completely insane ,gay or retarded ,or a combo .

Never stops me from trying though .

IMO another 3rd or 4th tall, at the minute.

I think he plays small, with Nice, skills, etc.

But I have seen him,,, well, shirk the overhead ball a few times. He may, or may Not, grow out of this.

I think for playing the medium sized role, we can find more hurt factor in other players.

Being from interstate I haven't seen Jai play, so all I can go on is written reports (mostly on here) which are mostly positive. However, if what you say above is a genuine concern, then I can see why he wouldn't figure strongly in Mark Neeld's plans

I haven't watched him in any detail.

But in watching the game, & when he's been on the close side of the ground you can see more of what happens.

He looks quite good in the refined skills way, but I haven't seen 1 iota of neanderthal in him.

Our clubs weakness IMO over the decades has been this lack. We've had Plenty of well cultured individuals & we've had plenty of skillful types, but we've lacked true warriors, the Soldiers, the Sergeants & the battlefield Generals.

We have been One Big NICE.

To break this linage & the culture of It, IMO we have to go the other way.

The skilled types are the paintjob on the Supercar..

He's been with the club for a year. They will know his strengths and weaknesses.

As a result, I back the club's judgement on him - that said, it seems to be an odd decision based on what I've read here.

Rookie list is being cut by 2 this year.....Clubs only allowed 4 rookies.......I don't know why.....Seems a strange decision....

Except for that Dipper is of Italian lineage...

Not quite. They can still have 6 but then 38 on list.

With min 4 they can have 40 on list.

So bit of ducks and drakes really.

Something has to give...twas him.

Not fussed. Neither is the club i imagine.

A lower player cut.....wow...shattering stuff.

at end of the day, the club has had him on the list for 12 months and will know very well by now what is strengths and weaknesses are and what he might become so I am confident they know what they are doing

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.
