Ah... Tonatopia.

Making the silly season a little sillier.

Pick 3 - Brodie Grundy

Pick 4 & player - Jack Martin

Simple!

Midfield superdraft and ur saying we don't take any midfielders who can play next year with our first 2 picks?

There are a few good midfielders in this draft this year and probably a few more in next years, but there are not many really top notch forwards from what I have seen. Melbourne is likely to pick up at least two good midfielders this time around, so I suggest investing pick 4 in Hogan.

I would take Stringer over Hogan as he can play next year.

We can try draft a forward next year or just trade for one since Hogan cant play until 2014

Oh no we have to wait one whole year to play what might be the next Jonno Brown for the next 10 or so.. I don't think we can wait that long- being a club that is used to that winning feeling, and all...

Clearly you know nothing of Hogan if you think waiting a year for his type of talent is too long.

Pick 3 will go on Viney.

Pick 4 Wines

Pick 13/14 will go on getting Dawes. And they can have Martin, I like him but this 26 and has only played 70 odd games and where still waiting for him to have his brake out year. Time to use him as trade bate before we leaves as a free agent.

He will head home before he becomes that type of player. Or I should say he will say his heading home only to be picked up by another team in another state.

You keep making these absolute statements when you're clearly speculating like everyone else. It's very annoying.

This is the reality of a.f.l these days.

Sometimes, but usually not.

Far more players stay than ever go, which makes your absolute statements silly.

I do like the idea of Hogan in the mini draft. However, I read somewhere (not sure where) that there is likely to be a number of good KPPs in next year's draft. I would have thought this year we should focus on quality midfielders, whether they be from the draft or trades or FAs. There will be more KPP RFAs next year as well.

No point loading up our forward line with highly paid gorillas if we can't deliver it to them.

It may or may not be the best example, but the Dorks lost last week with arguably the best KPF (Buddy) in the comp. Did any big fwds win it for Sydney by kicking a bag? Champion midfielders go a long way towards winning premierships.

Viney, Toumpas, O'Rourke please.

Unless you and your father get a truck load of money to go to GWS.

Dawes is worth a third round pick at best. No chance in hell we should be giving up a first round pick for him. Also, Martin won't be eligible for FA until he's 29. Plenty of time left there.

You're adding 2 and 2 and getting 3.

You can't assume Boyd will fall into your lap. And there's no guarantees he'll be better.

Hogan is precisely what we need and will be a star, which is why we'll make a play if Viney falls to the second round.

Why do we need another young tall? We have the tallest list in the league as it is. What we need are quality mids and pockets. If you talk about drafting what we need this year then Hogan doesn't get mentioned.

Beggars can't be choosers.

Beggars can't be choses.

Forget Hogan.

A lot of time to pass before he pulls on a jumper,

A lot of time to pass in which he can do a Jimmy Riddle.

Yeah, we have plenty of 98kg 194cm CHF/FF beasts running around at Casey...

Clearly we lack what Hogan provides. We drafted Watts as a key forward and how's that looking ? We drafted Cook as a key forward and how's that looking ? If we didn't need young key forwards coming through why did we draft both of those players with first round picks ? And if we were well off for key forwards why did Rivers play half the year up forward ? Why did Garland spend time up there ? Hogan is a better key forward prospect than Darling. We're not expecting to play finals next year, so what's the problem with waiting one year ? He'll be 19 and a man mountain when round 1, 2014 comes around. And he's fast, agile, a great mark and aggressive. He will impact the competition in his first year.

We can address a number of our issues this draft, especially if Viney comes at pick 26 or so. It's not a matter of getting Hogan, so we compromise other areas of need.

For example:

Hogan(3), O'Rourke(4), Garlett(13), Viney(26), Dawes(Rivers compo), Byrnes(FA) and other mids such as Towers(189cm with speed) and Graham will come into play depending on other potential trades and compensatory picks for Martin, Moloney, etc.

We can achieve much from this draft and trade period even with waiting a year for Hogan. A year that will be well worth the wait.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
