FAREWELL JARED RIVERS

Featured Replies

My guess is that we probably offered Riv a one year deal (which would be appropriate imo) and the Cats offered two. Hence his decision to walk. I'm not so sure we will "essentially" be swapping Rivers for Pedersen. There's a bit of water to go under the bridge in the trade period yet. I'm hopeful that we will get a second rounder as the wash-up from free agency, and I doubt we would pay that for Pedersen. There's still the potential Martin trade, and whatever else might come out of the woodwork next week.

Not sure on the length but the contract we offered him was less than the previous one which he wasn't happy about. Especially since he was leading B&F until he was moved forward.

If the club really wanted to keep him they would of.

My meme had poor grammar so I removed it but seriously wyl - just stop it.

"I am Melbourne Tony" all other clubs can go....

Just admit you got it wrong with your interpretation of my post.

Blue & White is NOT Red & Blue.

I got nothing wrong. I was disappointed in your original comment...Jared has regressed.

He made a choice.

With all due respect, at the moment you are carrying on like a "Melbourne Richard".

hehe..entertaining.

I just watched footage of River's press conference in his Geelong polo shirt. Just weird and wrong.

I think there's some serious overestimation of Watts' ability as a backman in this thread. It's all rosy when he's playing loose, but there'll be alot more responsibility placed upon him now. The days of him getting monstered in the one-on-one contests better disappear quick smart.

You mean Sunny Walters has been on the roids ?

Thats about as low as it gets-insult of the year.

Just playing devils advocate here, but how is this any different to when Cam Bruce left? Just because we have a name for it (Free Agency) does that make us more accepting of a player leaving for a better contract and walking from the club?

Cam Bruce left for a worse contract. He got an extra year from Hawthorn that vindicated our decision.

Rivers was pushed out of his position and we offered what we offered. He made the decision that he was better off at Geelong - where he would get a more regular game - and we all move on.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
