The key difference of course being ... one puts his body on the line in the heat of the action while the other hangs out the back getting the cheapies.

Forget about the 15 "cheap", "non-contested" possessions Watts had after his first game back from 5 weeks off, well, actually first 1 1/2 quarters. That was only against GWS. Let's bring up the shocker he had last weekend agaist a Top 3 side. Forget the fact that we are sh!t and have only beaten 1 team, in which Watts got Best On Ground in.

The sooner you realise that if it wasn't for NN, the Eagles would be in the bottom 4 rather than the top 4, the better.

IN FACT, the stats I mention would be more towards Watts as I forgot he didn't play Round 1, so those stats are based on 15 games instead of 14 this year.

Don't get me wrong, I think NikNat will be an amazing player, I've said it before, but you're constant bagging of Watts is NOT supported by facts, only emotion.

So what do we do Dr? Do we trade Jack, our number 1 pick from 2008, just because he isn't that crash and bash forward that we all wanted? Or, do we look at what he can do well and play him in areas that he will excel in?

At the end of the day, he's on our list, is contracted (I think), has obvious talent. He is what he is, but correct, he isn't what all wanted him to be (me included). That doesn't mean I'm going to write him off. If he were to win a Brownlow or Norm Smith playing off the half back flank, I couldn't give a sh!t that he didn't kick 70 goals that year and taken an average of 10 contested marks a game. I want the coach to play him where he is going to be of value to the team, which is what he is doing.

We don't give up on him, we have to accept that as a number 1 pick he will be just a little above average footballer, to add to our list of average AFl footballers, where as Hurley and Nic Nat will be stars of the competition over the next 5 years.

By the way his best value to the team isn't of Half Back, he isn't really that attacking Half Back Flanker, most of his disposals are deep in defense, more trying to rebound rather than real attacking running of half back and kicking to our forwards. To me we seem to be happy that he is getting 20+ touches per game, with most of these in the last line of defense, he should be the bloke that working hard off half forward to supply a hit up target, you don't need strength to work hard leading and providing an option coming out of defense.

I'll be happy if his disposal efficiency on the last line of defence remains as high as it is. I'd rather have the ball in Watt's hands in that area than Grimes'.

I was meant to barrack for West Coast, family is from WA, but lucky me went to a Dees game when 7 and chose MFC... FML

Naitanui is better, but he would have gone back to Perth as soon as his first contract expired. So, given that, Watts was a better choice as he will be a 10+ year player for us.

This poll was set up for those who like self-flagellation.

Anyway, have any of the wrist-cutting brigade forgotten that if we had selected NN, by now he might be back in WA playing for the WCE at peak form having gotten used to the game at MFC? How does that influence the 'did we get it right or wrong' question?

It is either too soon to say as many posters have said. And perhaps it will never be clear because of the 'go-home' factor which can only be decided in a parallel universe in which MFC selected him.

here we go

1/ As of right now NN has impressed more the JW- (anyone wanting to knock NN - just wow - he is an excitement machine and will be anything !) - therefore we got it wrong

2/ NN in my opinion would have gone back to WA (or GWS) after contract one - so we got it right

3/ I try to never judge players that are 21 and not yet developed so therefore I have no idea if we got it wrong or right - time will tell.
