Oliver Wines

I struggle Christ keep digging Stuie and make sure you use thongs in the shower, who knows what you catch using those public showers in the Park.

Jesus Stuie, I didn't realise you'd fallen so far in the world. Ditch the caravan park. I'm sure Biffen could organise a room for you and the family at The Gat.

Pretty Sure just about all the recruiting staff and coaches left with Neeld Stuie.

But keep on buzzing around...

Bloke wasn't averaging 25 touches a game in his first year, delist him.

seriously? Wines is playing well good for him, the fact Wines had a better first year doesn't make any difference to us, he plays for Port, Viney and Toumpas will be fine, they have Roos and Stone developing them and they both have talent, you don't get rated that highly for no reason.

hey rjay

I think if he wants to break packs (like Ollie did) he may need some more weight..

BUT - I was actually trying to quote D26 from a top of pg.29

Im still trying to work out why I cant do somethings that I could always do when replying on d-land..

lets see if I can quote your post..

EDIT: Nup, See.. WTF? Have I missed something?? I cant even quote a post..

Mods.. Help!

It's ok 'Dan' you'll get it sorted.

Viney will be ok, just needs a good run at it but Wines is really off to a flyer. The kid can play.

Plenty of well rated players don't make it D26.

there are no guarantees in recruiting

Todd Viney recruited Toumpas.

He still works for us as "Manager Player Personnel".

http://www.melbournefc.com.au/the-club/people/staff-members

But keep on showing your ignorance.

Push comes to shove it would be the Senior Coaches call Stuie.

It's his balls on the line. He lost. And so did the club.

Believe what you like.

That's fine, but what says Toumpas won't because he was quiet in his first year? sure if in 3 years he's done nothing then we have this convo for now we really have no idea

the only consistant knock i am hearing is that he's apparently abit soft, i remember hearing the same knocks on Gary ablett jr in his first two years

Carefully D26 some will say you think he is the next GA

I will be happy if he is half as good.

Yeah things seem to work like that around here, i too would be happy with half as good, a consistant 200 gamer would be plenty for me, and i see no reason that can't happen

a ready to go potential Norm Smith Medalist would have been far better than a consistant 200 game player.

The sort of player who can pick the club up and say "We are going to rise"

But no we drafted a kid who needed hip surgery.

Kinda sums up the last 50 years.

Not hungry enough.

That's not correct WYL. If you talk to recruiters, read about how their job works, the head coach tells them the type of player they think they have the need for or they just say "best available", then the recruiter (who is the one who spends years watching these young players) makes a priority list of the talent available.

Otherwise why the hell would you even bother having so many recruiting staff?!

Get over the conspiracies and constant depression sessions pal.

Oh and by the way, Port will need to make a Grand Final before Wines even has a shot at a Norm Smith, so your constant talk about him being a Norm Smith Medalist just makes you look even more silly.

What, like Viney?

No worries Stuie keep believing what you wish

It really doesn't concern me.

The facts are what they are.

Wines will be a total gun

Neeld made a shocking call.

You're predicting about Wines.

Viney chose Toumpas.

The only fact is that you clearly have no idea what a fact is.

At the risk of being beaten from pillar to post - I gotta say..

From my understanding the coach has almost NO say in WHO gets drafted, he may want mids or a flanker or tall defender - but as for WHO that person is..

thats not the coaches job.

..and as for draft night mjt - thats decided weeks in advance with a 'best available' list, that you would cross players off and whoever is at the top of your list when its your turn, thats who you recruit. I mean, have you ever seen a coach read out a players name and number on draft night?

I can remember an article from about 18 months ago, just before the 'toumpas draft' where it mentioned Neeld was asked to give a 20 minute presentation to the recruiters..

20 minutes? ..in how many months preparation?

I would guess a coach like Roos or Thompson would have maybe 10% input in all the time it takes to decide WHO is needed.. maybe.

A 1st time coach like Neeld? ..20 minutes!

Prickterghast, Viney, Taylor - they are/were making the decisions.. not the coach.

(Thats how I read it anyway.. I could be wrong/partially wrong)

EDIT: and yes WYL - wines will be a gun - we absolutely agree there! ;)

Toumpas will be a gun too.

Could be the next Gary Ablett tt if he improves alot :)

I would be very surprised if Roos had no say in the Tyson , Salem and Josh Kelly trade mate but who knows unless you work there.

What's this potential norm smith medallist nonsense, every player in the comp right now is a potential norm smith medallist

I get you mean he is a big game player but there are plenty of those out there, Jimmy Toumpas is one of them.

MJT-

thats why I put in the get-out clause "I could be wrong" - its hard to know exactly - but that was just my take on it.

There would of course be isolated incidences:

like maybe roos - tyson.. neeld - dawes another off the top of my head.. wouldnt have thought roos would have much input about salem and jkh and the youngins' tho..

again, I could be wrong - thats just how I read it..

-I could imagine Jason taylor who is VERY good at his work, respectfully looking Roos in the eye and saying

'Mate, this is my area of expertise, I wont let you down.. just concentrate on your already very hefty commitments.

I'll bring you the talent, you embellish it.'

If anyone is unclear on the Pillars, read this. This is an indication as to the talent identification that all Clubs go through. Toump would have been picked by GWS on talent alone, but instead, they went for 3 Victorian lads that knew each other to try to stem the "Go Home" factor. Toumpas was CLEARLY the second best player in that draft. If some of you peanuts sitting at your keyboards would take your hand off it, you would see what EVERYONE else saw. A Classy, Elite, Hardworking young man that will become a Champion of our Club. He is chocfull of Character as well. Look at the Videos on our website re his new roll as an AFL MULTICULTURAL AMBASSADOR. He is mixing with the likes of Jobe Watson, Nic Nat etc. He is also doing some work with Australia Post helping our young Indigenous get the same opportunities he got. All this while having to put up with the weight of expectation of losers spitting on our OWN players last year after some disastrous results. SPITTING!!! WTF.

Grow up all you people (for want of a better word) decrying the fact we got Jimmy. Ollie will be elite as well, but in his own way. Our Jack, and Jimmy will help to lead thismClub from the abyss we are currently in. I trust, with the appropriate amount of developement, that we have 2 future leaders to guide us to greatness.

It aint nonsense mate.

But like Stuie you can choose not to believe if you wish.

That is all wonderful I hope it comes to fruition as you describe.

But you know the only thing I care about is him becoming a very good player at the MFC anything else is nice but to be brutally honest I could not care less.

If he is not a good player for a long time I don't care if he ends up as Australia's ambassador to the UN.

Who needed hip surgery.

Which made a very risky call regardless of what had been written by the scribes earlier.

anyone who has done rehab after hip surgery will know wxactly what i mean.

Therefore you are saying our next Star player could be an Axe Murderer for all you care, as long as he kicks a goal or two (figuratively speaking)? God help the children you two clowns may one day raise. I am sure if either of you have kids that they will/are good humans, but it would only be because of their Mum's, not you. Do you also condone the spitting the boys had to endure after the Essendon game? I bet you do. Argument closed, not worth it.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.
