The list - who goes at the end of the year?

Morton can be traded, it could happen.lol

Seriously if a number 12 draft pick goes at the end of the year without playing a god damn game then WTF is club doing?

Run by fools! Desperately need a Malthhouse, Mathews, Lloyd, ROSS lyon type to take over the lot. Craig is an Adelaide disgard and doesn't do much save chew gum. Neeld ahhh um! The rest simply hurry around and appear to be busy. Very very sad indeed.

First to go should be the Coach, not only have the players gone backwards; I am struggling to find any structure whatsoever. The only redeeming piont from this season, is Nathan Jones and he is the only one who has improved. Says plenty!

Neeld I believe has about 12 months to improve the standard. If this time next year we are still serving up the crud then Neeld will be in a difficult position and thw.

But not as difficult as the curent Board and administration. The only thing saving them if things dont turn around in the next 12 months is the lack of plausible alternative challengers.

I only infer possible, not probable !! lol

And from Clint Bizkit today.. "Extremely soft effort by Morton in defence allows Frankston to kick a goal."

Says it all....

LOL, wouldn't get anyone to trade if you chucked in a hundred bottles of vintage "Grange Hermitage" to sweeten the deal!

I reckon Morton will indeed be in another jumper next year ( possibly not a football one though )

There are often teams that look as discards and/or underperformers and think they can apply the magic and have a 'decent' player on the cheap.

My prediction is Morton will be at another club in 2013

If we have 11 spots to fill after the supposed list cull that is coming we can't expect to get more than 3 experienced, quality players.

That leaves us with 8 kids coming in. Those 8 kids aren't going to hit the ground running. We'd be lucky if 2 do.

That leaves us with a really junior list and what would apper to be a very inadequate senior team. I can't see 2013 being great for Neeld and I think it needs to be for his future as an AFL coach.

I'm genuinely expecting us to pay bank over the off season for players that most won't rate. I think a lot of careers are riding on us spending big. Fascinating times ahead.

I'm not against getting a player like Chapman (if we can) for a year or two.

The whole "playing the kids" approach has backfired badly, the kids need solid players with a winning culture around them if they are to get any better.

I would be all for Paul Chapman, kicked 3 today and is the type of player we need Now! Got another one for you as well

Simon Hogan who can't crack it for a senior game at Geelong, quick, smart ball gatherer and user!

Cook was quiet today. Gifted his only goal with a soft free and he was hardly playing on David Dench. There's not a lot of urgency in his game. He has no presence and doesn't demand the ball. No aggression.

I wouldn't keep on what I've seen. We could have drafted Atley with his pick.

Hnmm interesting

Still maintain, we should have kept "JUICE" !

Claremont or Perth maybe.

You have to be trolling. Drafted in 2010, so in his second year, and has been plagued by injuries - a lot through his hips which can really stop you from doing much at all in terms of training etc.

I completely understand why some supporters wouldn't want to make such an early call on him, but I'm happy to.

If I'm wrong I'll have to eat a healthy dose of humble pie. I don't see a quality AFL key forward with this guy.

Can we trade him for the one we overlooked for him ....... Cyril??

Im sorry Mon..........not in this lifetime or dimension... Possibly in that parallel one over there >>>>>>>>>>

I know we are all depressed and anxious for change but I say lay off Cook, how in the he'll is he a scapegoat for the dismal efforts of administrators, recruiters, coaches and players at MFC. He's a second year player. Tell me one moment of his apprenticeship when a senior player has taken him under their wing and helped him develop his game. Let him run with Clark in the preseason and see whats needed at the top level.

From the Casey game yesterday, I was seriously underwhelmed with Morton and Cook. I love fantasy but I cant see how Morton will be traded. I cant see what he would offer another Club. Even if Hawthorn picked him up and they played him in the current side they would still claim they were one short on the day. He was pedestrian against the bottom VFL side. He is contracted next year (rats!). We should do with him what we did with Newton and Meesen. He, along with Davey should be put on the rookie list. They should be told that they will not play for MFC again.

Cook played like a footballer who was told "Now dont get your hands dirty son". Showed nothing and did nothing and drums must be beating for year end. No where near AFL. Not even some promising signs. I have a list of 10 departures off the list and he is not on it. I can understand the arguments for it.

Gysberts and Evans did not overly enthuse. Gysberts was blowing hard through out the game. Needs a big pre season if he is still with MFC.

What is his game? He shows nothing at VFL level. Any chance he might have watched replays of Clarks efforts this year. There should no top level opportunity until he shows something at the VFL level.

A Cook de-listing would put the full stop and exclamation point on the unmitigated disaster that was the Bailey/Prendergast era.

Granted he had a broken, jaw, but how can a player like Gysberts (and Blease for the matter) still not be fit enough?

Oh didn't you hear, he's a project player who needs to work on his tank.

Spare me.

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.
