Yes, you know what it says and you know how it reads... because you wrote it. I read it differently because you put it all together in a very poorly constructed paragraph.

It may be hard to believe, but I don't want to insult you, or anyone. The paragraph isn't poorly constructed at all. I merely said that I rated Boak's upside more than Jones and Moloney and then proceeded to mention Boak's age and the time he has left in the right age bracket, i.e. 24-30. For you to then clumsily assume that I was making age comparisons with Moloney, or Jones, only exposes your lack of intellect, not mine.

Let's move on.

Yes, let's agree to disagree on that point (my disagreement stemming from my employment as a technical writer of over 20 years standing)... and for someone who insists he doesn't wish to insult anyone, you are failing miserably based on what appears in this thread.

Yes, I know... apologies.

Travis Cloke on The Footy Show, one-on-one with Garry Lyon.

Said that they're not 'quite there yet' (Collingwood's offer)

Admitted that Freo had an offer on the table.

Very nervous, sounded somewhat mercenary, didn't say the 'team' things.

Gone.

Alternatively, Cloke's mercenary attitude may mean he stays at the Pies but, by doing so at such a high price, hurts his club and team mates by pushing other player/s out

Absolutely true - watching him squirm, he had absolutely no consideration that he'd push others out.

If he signs, there'll be a few clubs circling for the others that (I assume) will be quite disgruntled.

Re the comparison with Beams and Boak...Boak would like a million bucks in that Collingwood team. He's a little bit out of sight with Port, but is a jet. I'd have him over Beams

Back on the topic of Melbourne's midfield.

If it ain't Boak, then don't fix it!

Well, it sorta is - the debate about a KP forward or a Boak/Beams.

They're all intricately woven.

if we want him we will be up against Cats, Bombers & Bulldogs

you have to give something to get something

dont use early picks, but mid pick PLUS i seriously think 1 of these 3 players will be offered.

1. Tapscott - Adelaide Boy....hard to think we would trade him but depends how highly we rate Boak.

2. Petterd - How does Port rate him? i think he will be at GWS or GC next year anyway

3. Dunn - if he cant keep his spot for rest of year consider him trade bait

Port will not rate any of the names here maybe tapscott but they will want A grade players or picks back for Boak'

To get this done it will be Top 10 pick or Trengove,Frawley,Jamar or maybe pick 12 with Moloney.

Port will shop hard for something nice this guy is almost A grade and coming into his best years.

Sometimes fans over rate there own players.

Think about it this would be like Trengove or frawley walking out on us.

So i ask you what would you want your club to get for such players in return?

I'd be thinking about a mid pick and maybe Dunn,Bate or beamer I'd keep tappy and I still like Petterd. He has literally done nothing this year but we have seen the full potential of the players I mentioned and I don't think we have seen the best of Ricky P yet.

No disrespect Chris, but giving them a "mid pick", plus one of the above is giving them "nothing".

Edit: I've mentioned previously that pick 12 plus Tapscott may interest them. But a mid pick wouldn't.

What the hell is a "mid pick"?

If it means mid-1st round compensation pick, then it stands as a relatively fair return for Boak.

"we'll take your best player, and you can have a speculative pick and one of a selection of our journeymen. Sound good?"

Said poster "Chris from Perth" had already stated that he didn't want to give an "early pick", so I assumed he meant a third rounder. I'd still consider pick 12/13 an early pick.

And it may be a fair return, but it wouldn't get any deal done.

Pick 4 is likley to be involved in any trade for a very good player like Boak or Beams. We'd want something in return though. That's where 4 + 13 for Boak + 7 comes in - someone else thought of that before me.

Pick 13 + player has to be a decent player and we don't have many. Selection policy suggests Neeld values Tapscott so I don't think he'll be going anywhere. 13 + Moloney or 13 + Sylvia might get it done if PA value either of them. 13 + Blease if we think we can't mould him.

Current rumor going around work at the moment, and if true it means we wont get Boak.

Rumor going around is that Port Adelaide, Geelong, St. Kilda & Carlton have already struck an in principle agreement that will see Boak go to Geelong, Dawson Simpson & the Ablett compensation pick go to St. Kilda, Goddard go to Carlton and Russell and Carltanks first round pick to Port Adelaide. Discussion of swapping lower picks ongoing.

Don't know how reliable, but that's what I've heard today. I hate to say it, but this is a friend of a friend scenario.

Terrible deal for St Kilda if that actually happened.

I would have thought so to. That's why I'm not convinced by this rumor myself. Thought I should post it anyway seeign as that's what I'd heard on the grape vine.

St Kilda does shape as a player in trade week, though. They are on the decline, need talented youth and must surely be looking at trading out a star or two while they still have currency.

Goddard is a free agent. Why would Carlton bother trading for him?

That alone makes me discount the whole scenario.

Forgot, Goddard is an unrestricted free agent isn't he?

Having said that I'm not sure how that works re: trading an unrestricted free agent. It'd be the same as trading a contracted player wouldn't it? Cause if he just tried to walk the origonal club can just match the offer?

Will be interesting to see how St. Kilda go this off season. Lack of ruckmen and key defenders with aging midfielders and KPF. Wouldn't love to be in their position...

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
