OK - I know we have had a crappy start to the season and the first 11 rounds are either lost or against top teams, but the second half of the season is a much better run.

When you combine that with the moments of greatness we see periodically and another two months of training soft bodies (and maybe dumping them for stronger ones) and learning new game plans I think its not too unrealistic.

So here is my 2012 AFL Ladder Prediction:

  1. Hawthorn
  2. West Coast
  3. Carlton
  4. Geelong
  5. Collingwood
  6. Essendon
  7. Sydney
  8. North Melbourne
  9. Fremantle
  10. Melbourne
  11. Adelaide
  12. Richmond
  13. St Kilda
  14. Port Adelaide
  15. Lions
  16. Bulldogs
  17. Gold Coast
  18. GWS Giants

Supreme optimist.

Adelaide is a top 8 proposition. Richmond, St Kilda and the Bulldogs are playing much better football than Melbourne. Even Port Adelaide and the Lions have enough home game advantage to ensure they'll get more wins than Melbourne.

16th for me, or even 17th if the Gold Coast Suns can cobble together a few home wins.

Hahaha!! I love this club, but right now we are the worst in the league by a long way.

10th. Get Real. The 2nd half of the season will be just as hard as the beginning.

The Bears, the Tigers and the Dogs have all beaten us easily.

Wakey Wakey!

Always an optimist!

I know that we have playing terribly for the past four weeks, and the next six weeks look tough, but I cant see how with the way the draw looks in the second half of the year, how we could do any worse than 14th.

But when it happens - you saw it here first!

Agree.

And if Ablett misses the Round 7 match v the giants, the Giants could have their first win.

Did a predictor exercise the other day on the AFL website and I'll just say my exercise shows we're a fair way from the optimistic OP'ers prediction. (15th-18th).

GW$ are learning the craft very quickly. Sure they may hit the Wall later this year. But they will become loathed on & off the field soon.

They already are loathed on and off the field, WYL.

What's the bet we head into the last few games anchored to bottom three and then win a few 'junk' games in August to deny ourselves the absolute cream in the draft ...

I've been an MFC supporter for too long.

Yes. But sooner rather than later they will be loathed on field because they are winning. Loathed even more...

Do you loathe successful on-field performances? Or are you jealous? I find I'm the latter.

I'm with you - Stay with your optimism - they are all a bunch of negative pessimists around here. (Toxic)

Realists they will "claim" - mentally scared I say.

did you mean scared, scarred or sacred? I'm confused and I know your grammar is wanting.

If you're referring to posters who express dissatisfaction at a four-year win/loss ratio of 24-62, then yes the term 'mentally scarred' is probably accurate.

But you go on being blissfully unaffected. What's that saying about ignorance?

Then what do you care about how GWS goes? That has nothing to do with us.

It certainly does matter if GW$ beat us. Shows how useless the last 4 years have been. It hasn't happened yet, but they look far more disciplined than we do right now so it is not completely fanciful.

17th or 18th, this is a learning year as opposed to the last 4 which have been, oh! that's right, learning years (unfortunately from what we've been told learning the wrong things, hopefully we've got it right this time).

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

    TRAINING: Wednesday 11th December 2024

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

Demonland's own Whispering Jack was not in attendance but he kicked off proceedings with the following summary of all the Preseason Training action to date. We’re already a month into the MFC preseason (if you started counting when the younger players in the group began the campaign along with some of the more keen older heads)

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
