If we recruit another Cook then someone has been a sheep at the wheel...

Hahaha what?

Not sure if you meant that or not...

We have managed to miss some picks looking back, getting good players with top ten picks is easy enough. getting the 100% best player at your pick is another thing to get right.

That's true, but I think that's probably more down to the coach in the end.

They'd be involved with the interviews of the kids at the pointy end of the draft, and I'd assume they make the final decision.

My read is that the Recruiting Manager makes sure they gather as much pertinent info as they can, to make the most informed decision.

With these kids, the info will be there anyway.

Neeld seems to have had a fairly large part in selecting the kids in the 2011 draft (Taggert's letter) and I'd expect that to continue.

True story, we want to pick players with shear determination...

Yep I'd call that no experience in recruiting AFL players. What would you call it?

Thanks for avoiding my point which is someone learning on the job rather than a tried and proven candidate.

i love supporters who think we can just go out and get whoever we want..like everyone is just dying to come to our club..... I am sure steven wells wants to leave the success of Geelong to come to us...as for Pelchen, why wouldn't he leave a role that has him in charge of everything football at St. Kilda to be a national recruiter answering to Viney and having to go and watch 3-5 footy matches every weekend.

whilst we are at it....why didn't CS call CGU and get them to sponsor us, i'm sure they would have left the filth for us, Also if we had asked Chris scott to coach us this year he would of come...

Underwhelmed.

No experience. A good bloke who has worked with some school teams and ammos. I should have applied.

Haven't we learned anything? We keep going for rookie coaches and staff like Mahoney etc who learn on the job. We are more desperate than that. We need someone who can tell us what the elite clubs are doing. At least Neeld and Craig can do that.

What about Pelchen or the Geelong guy?

you gotta start somewhere, every great coach, administrator had a first job in the big leagues

give the poor fella a chance before you bag him out

Especially in a lesser role to the one they are in now...

Uhh, you realise this guy is essentially just a spotter, right? This is essentially an entry-level position in to the footy industry for those who don't have a passage in through playing. All the clubs have lots of guys on the payroll like this, both full time and part time, including ours. There's a guy who used to be a regular on Demonland that made his way in to the footy industry this way. The "tried and proven" candidates all have better jobs.

Asking for Pelchen or "the Geelong guy" to fill this role would be like asking for George Calombaris to apply for the role of kitchen hand.

"Lamb choice cut for Dees"

Ugh, who's the funnyman writing these puntastic titles for these articles, Ugly Dave Gray?

Can't be UDG. No mention of his mother-in-law.

I hope for his own saftey that the proposed push by St Kilda to play AFL games in New Zealand, that the MFC don't have a baa of it.

Q. What's the difference between the Melbourne Herald Sun and the New Zealand Herald?

A. The Melbourne Herald Sun runs an article with the heading "Lamb travels across the Tasman to check out talented New Zealanders"...

I thought Y_M got drafted?

Great stuff guys, mature sensible footy talk in this thread - give a bloke a fair go before you judge him.

???? i don't get that one

Actually I think he's herd enough ;)

And players that can kick the bloody thing well. I'm sick of our blokes that continually shank it.

Lamb Nee'ds to search out amongst the farming community, if he's to find players who can kick like a Mule, or has bite, like a Crocodile.

  • REPORT: Geelong

I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

  • PREGAME: Essendon

Facing the very real and daunting prospect of starting the season with five straight losses, the Demons head to South Australia for the annual Gather Round, where they’ll take on the Bombers in search of their first win of the year. Who comes in, and who comes out?

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?

  • POSTGAME: Geelong

The Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, falling to 0–4 after a more spirited showing against the Cats at Kardinia Park. Despite the improved effort, they went down by 39 points, and the road ahead is looking increasingly grim.
