AFL Employee leaked info about indigenous players

Featured Replies

Just by the way, if Neeld did happen to address the indigenous boys as a group why is this racist and why is everyone up in arms? Are we being a little over-sensitive??

Yes I can see that it would be seen to be treating them differently because of their race but the indigenous boys identify as 'brothers' and a collective group. They will offer each other support and make their way to each of the opposition indigenous players at the end of each match to shake hands and chat. They freely talk about themselves as a collective unit. Is it a case of double standards?

Not saying it is or isn't but it's hardly a hanging crime is it? Paul Roos got away with saying indigenous players have less endurance and hardly a word was muttered in protest yet I personally would find that more offensive. But what if it's true? Why is it that the last 30 or so world record 100m metre runners have been black? It it racist to say that they are better runners? Or does the evidence simply overide that?

Totally agree with this.

Apart from an AFL employee being completely exposed as a loud mouth who can't respect confidentiality this story is so over blown it is amazing. It is like journos know they have a few days of column inches to fill so just run with anything to do it.

Has Mclardy spoken at all today?

This is a critical time for all. His response is pivatol.

Don't hold your breath WYL. I think if the senior coach is saying "let's move on" it's improbable the Pres will want to chip in, at least not in the immediate future. Perhaps he will once it's had time to settle down or wait until we see something worthy of the title 'united club' on field.

I know, but having spent 7-8 years working in a news room years ago i know how these stories grow and fester. Sitting in a bunker rarely makes them go away. It is usually the opposite.

I'm surprised there has been little interest shown in wanting to better understand exactly what Aaron Davey's grievances are with the new coaching regime (if any). Most simply assume he does not like the tough stance / demanding work load but there could many other legitimate concerns he may have raised with the clubs best interest in mind. He has always come across as a grounded and responsible person and he has never done anything I can remember that would make me question his integrity or loyalty..

I'm not sure about that, It's a well known poltical tactic to deprive a story of oxygen. If you don't feed the monster it can limit how long people talk about it.

If you respond to every little angle because a journo demands to know it then you prolong it for an infuriating amount of time. Tomorrow there will be a new story that takes the back page away (please!!!)

NEWS FLASH

Neeld has gathered all the redheads at training today to tell them to put sunscreen on as the sun is out.

Outrage at the Herald Sun over blatant discrimination....

It's the journo's feeding the monster, that is my concern. News travels faster than we can process now.

Very serious allegations have been made on different levels. I don't think this will fade away just yet. It has the power to do more damage...

Davey's 'grievances' seem to have started early on last year. At least that's when his level of disinterest and commitment to a contest started. Who could forget his game against North before he was injured....

I have changed my stance on this, it is time for the Melbourne Bubble, we deal with issues is our way under strict confidence and any one that breaks that confidence is shown the door. It is time to close ranks and get the players focused on what they are employed to do.

I think thats what we've all been screaming for from the club. So I guess it's a reflection of the lack of trust that we as supporters have for our club to be strong in the face of Big Issues & or the AFL themselves.

In a way we do admire the Jeff Kennetts & Maguires, but only because we feel kicked about by all & sundry. On the other hand the Cats, thru they're successes, they may well have lost this feeling of being a little pawn in a bigger game.

And with/thru Cooks ways, they seem to be able to negotiate their way thru things well. They lost Ablett/'s, they had issues re SJohnston, & others, and they have sorted things well, out of the spotlight pretty much...

Me thinks this has been a bit, 'all too much', over the last 4 or 5 weeks leading into the season.

Discimanation us Brown head guys get sun burnt too.

Well when I had some

Firstly let me say I admire the way Neild has handled this so far.I hope he continues to be strong with his approach to both the Media and those Players who want to rain on his parade by Inept Performences .

We are supposed to be a Club , the players are supposed to back each other, their coaches and the Club

I believe that those within the club want to do just that !

As for Thomas and Jason Mifsud who gives a rat about either of them

Misfud has proven he is a lowlife and Thomas is a washed up has been

The Melbourne Football Club has more Important things to concern itself with like getting the Players to Play some Good Football for one!

As Far as Aaron is concerned he needs to get out on the Field and answer it with a Blinding performance , its been a while since we have seen that from him

Let him concentrate on his football and accept his word, I dont even believe any players of ours have said what Mifsud Claims , anyone with half a Brain would know you cant trust this clown so unless you deliberately wanted it out there why would you tell him anything ???

As for Demitrious attitude to the whole affair and how he handled the Matt Rendell affair just shows its one rule for one and another for somone else

Rendal From SA did not get the option that Mifsud has been given for a offence that is just as bad

Maybe we are looking at the wrong person who should be made to resign?/

I am reading the HUN right now. The double standards being spewed out by Vlad & his AFL is deplorable. Mifsud is a golden boy, who is being fast tracked. But all his cred has gone. This will not be forgotten. Mifsud will always be untrustworthy with any talk. Gone. Look at the back page photo.

Guilty man there.

Gold !!!

( or is that Ranga !! )

See above.

You've been in a newsroom too long.

Using terms like "pivotal" is pure hyperbole.

I don't see any need for McLardy to say anything, nor do I see how it could have any benefit.

It would merely be giving new legs to a dead issue.

this thread keeps popping to the top of the list, i don't know why as the issue is done and dusted.

No. With the right approach it kills the story stone dead in 5 minutes.

I don't want to still be reading this sh!t in the press on saturday morning.

As long as he talked to them ranga by ranga not as a group I dont have a problem with it

The orgasm by the media has a while to go yet WYL

I thought of all people you would understand that.

It will pop up for months yet.

every time there is the smallest problem at the MFC this will surface.

It is not over by a long shot

Edited by old dee

You have to remember, there is a chance our player is a liar. In which case, the club would want to shut this down.

There is also a greater chance that Mifsud is a self-important and unsophisticated "player", and he interpreted some comments in a way that suited his end. In that event, our player stands to be embarrassed by any more oxygen on his involvement in the situation, so I can understand why the club would want to shut this down in this case too.

If the player was squeaky clean, and Mifsud had simply lied, then I suggest this would have evolved a bit differently. Even in that case, though, MFC gains nothing by pouring oxygen on the fire.

If the MFC source lied then he /she should go it is not acceptable.

I hope the club ie Only Neeld and schwab have commented, arent backing the source in the hope that it will all go away coz it wont

Back the source completely stand your ground and kick back hard

Or be honest truthful stand your ground and sack the source

Its typical of modern management to spin wiggle and play games

Its an occasion that should not be missed to make the club mean something and i reckon it would have a great beneficial and uplifting consequences on the players

The club cannot be seen to try and ignore such shocking accusations and we have been completely dissed in this matter and the club trashed

Stand up as a united club for once be brave.

Quite possibly Yes OD. That is exactly why i would be advising Mclardy to put out one statement, so that if there are spot fires the view of the MFC is widely known.

At present nothing has been answered. Humans don't like that.

I agree... the dog ( media ) has a bone to play with, and play , and bury , and dig up and play they will.

im sure there is an internalisation of this also at the club. I can only envisage players being 'counseled' in protocols and grievance/outcomes/resolution etc. This will take the form of a door !!

Agree. The only way the journos feed the monster if you provide the feed. I cant think of any reason why Davey, Vlad/Mifsud would not to say anything further. If Neeld has decided to close the topic I cant see McLardy pushing it.

The MFC McLardy statement at this point is superflous and again would only feed your monster and will draw more questions. The issues puzzling everyone from this fiasco will not be addressed by the media release.

I would hope McLardy would adopt a more media savvy approach that you have outlined.

Disagree. It only festers if its got more to feed on. Given what has happened to date we cant stop the media raising it in the future. if they do its only a rehash of what we already know. Ho Hum. MFC will need to ensure at best it can that it is not in the news for anything else.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
