GAME DAY - Round 1

Good afternoon Demon fans!

Well, after almost seven months of off field goings on and a month of pre season matches, drama and tragedy, it's on in earnest today.

First game of the season is always a big day and it's even bigger today with a new coach, new players and a blank sheet.

As usual, I just want the four points.

I want a10 goal plus win .

I want all of the above, as well as for Mitch Clark not to kill any of our players. I worry that he'll do a little of that this year.

I also wish that this wedding was somehow cancelled so I could go to the game .

Who gets married on a Saturday at 4pm on round 1?

Disgraceful?

Can't make the game but I just loaded up the Telstra AFL app and subscribed so I can watch the game live on my phone!

This means I can now watch it while I'm out!

Bring it on today Dees!

Bate the Sub. Thoughts? I'm not to sure about it.

Traditionally he's a player who takes a long time to get into the game, but that was when he was not playing in the midfield. I don't think it suits Bate to be a sub.

Biffen - you have it lucky - I have to CONDUCT a wedding at 4:30pm, for my neice who is a Dees supporter! I cannot believe she chose the opening round of the season for the big day and I almost said no. Almost.

Clearly marriage is an affront to God, since it interferes with the Football Holy Communion.

Good call I reckon. Can play mid, can kick goals, not the quickest player so will come into the game when everyone else is slowing down.

Packed train on the way in, full of fans in a sea of red and blue, blood pumping, Carn Melbourne!

A man can have two faiths - Jesus Christ and the MFC. No tension at all here for me.

Good point can plug a few holes if we get an injury. And he was playing midfield we have many similar types. Most likely Tynan or Blease to be subbed out.

Apparently Garry's gone to give the boys a rev up before the game, always a good sign

He presented jumpers to the new players

Knowing Garry, I think he would have had a few words to the boys too

He did indeed... and they looked very focussed.

How good did the guernsey's look with the camera panning down the line!

Go demons!

The round of applause for Jimmy was a really nice touch... you could feel it gathering momentum so the players shuld take some energy from that... so much better than a minutes silence!

Very very soft free to give Magner his second goal... terrible umpiring! (but I'll take the goal)

Huge leaps because all we do is get it and bomb it high and long into the flank or pocket

Thats ok with Howe, Clark and Martin there. We just need Green and Davey to do something at ground level!

Forget the haunting of Round 11 — we’ve got this. Melbourne returns to its inner-city fortress for its milestone 100th AFLW match, carrying a formidable 10–2 record at IKON Stadium. Brisbane’s record at the venue is more balanced: 4 wins, 4 losses and a draw.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Geelong

It’s been a season of grit, growth, and glimpses of brilliance—mixed with a few tough interstate lessons. Now, with finals looming, the Dees head to Kardinia Park for one last tune-up before the real stuff begins.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
