Oh HT, I love this part. My opinion obviously differs from most? Did you need to put that in there to try and look like you are right and I am wrong? Davis was terrible in the Grand Final. Show me one match report that has him in the best.

I'll even go one step further HT, just for your benefit I have found the Hun's rating of each player in the Grand Final;

"LEON DAVIS - 43

Gave his opponents Grand Canyon-like space. The man who didn't get a touch in the '03 Grand Final didn't lay a touch on a Cats forward in the first term, with Varcoe and then Stokes making him pay. Provided rebound, but next to no accountability."

I find it more than interesting the highlighted the efforts of Leon in teh 2003 Grand Final. And that 43 rating - that's out of 100. But sure, I'm in the minority that thought his game was terrible.

Did you miss my point "didn't Vanish" in the GF ?

I can't believe we're debating this. Btw, where is your reference.

Here's mine: http://www.heraldsun...tch_id=10320401

Davis had 20 possessions - 12 kicks, 8 handballs, 4 marks (119 supercoach points) and 11 tackles ! 6th most possessions contribution from his side and 6th best ranked on field overall for SC points).

I think this proves that he had far from vanished and din't exactly go missing, and whilst didn't "star" on the day, he was ok - which is what I stated. His effectiveness may have been limited but that is beside the point. He contributed.

I love this part. :)

2011: "next to no accountability" - 11 tackles .... OK

2010: Leon isn't Robinson Crusoe as a talented small forward who has struggled to impact a close hard fought Grand Final - the best of the era Stephen Milne has also struggled.

A great example of when stats don't tell a true story.

Considering he was an All Australian, it is those types of quality players that you need to stand up in finals/grand finals. Leon isn't one of those players that can do that.

Perhaps my opinion is not one that differs to most.

Good assessment by Jennifer IMO on afl.com in this link from you, billy.

Rated a 6.5

Leon Davis - 6.5

Looking for redemption after quiet performances in his three previous Grand Final appearances. Had to work his way into it and gave Travis Varcoe too much space early on. Played forward in the second and had Josh Hunt as an opponent but went down back again in the third and took Allen Christensen. Had 20 touches for the game and his intent was there with 10 tackles.

- hardly vanished with 20 possy's; 11 tackles.....

Perhaps my opinion is not one that differs to most.

Well done HT - 1 out of 4 give him an "ok" mark. As I said, maybe my opinion isn't different to what most think.

And besides, you're talking about 1 of his 3 Grand Final appearances. Care to shed some light for me, in the minority, on his other 2 GF outings? No doubt you will try and convince yourself that 1 (in your words) "ok" performance and 2 pitiful ones still doesn't mean he goes missing. Whatever makes you happy HT. I'm happy with my assessment of Neon Leon, and looking at many sports reports, it seems to be a popular opinion.

I'm ok with it too.

Just remember these are what forums are for, opinions. 'You' may not agree and that's fine. You say Leon vanished, I say he was present and contributed in the GF (clearly he did contribute; refer to stats). And you disagree. We'll leave it at that then.

Whatever the case, I don't want him at Melbourne for reasons already expressed in my first post.

PS. Is a 4 or 4.5 an "ok" mark ? My marking system btw for anyone between 0-2 is deemed "vanished" :P

Anything under 50% is a fail! Maybe we've been too soft in the past referring to a 4 out of 10 as an ok game! Expectations MUST be raised!!!

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
