The New Sponsors

Featured Replies

does anyone have an idea when an announcement will be made?

To make an announcement, we need something to announce.

At the moment?

Not so much...

Wasn't trying to be a smart alec about:) They are difficult to deal with and one thing I have learned is it ain't over until it's over. When it's signed you can relax because up until that point anything goes. But there is no doubt the CHinese companies are looking at this market for sponsorship.

Not necessarily.

As stated-by CS ,he was very hopeful that the second sponsor would be signed on by Round 1-therefore by the end of March 2012.

'hopeful that the second sponsor would be signed on by Round 1' is not acceptable.

If a secound sponsor is not signed someone should get the sack, and someone who knows how to attract and retain sponsors should be employed. I don't believe it should be the CEO's job to find a sponsor, there should be some sort of sponsor/partnership manager, so if it is CS doing the looking it is a poor strucure.

Don't we have someone on our board that works or did work at BHP, they are only made 9.3billion for the first half of this financial year. A lazy 2million a per year to us wouldn't hurt and if we are focusing on China BHP makes most of their money from China.

Not to my knowledge. You might be thinking of Don Argus who I believe is a MFC supporter......

Great attitude.

I'm sure we could sign a FOJ sponsor for $500K for 2 years right now if we wanted.

But surely we're willing to put in the effort and afforing the patience to secure a much better and/or longer term deal.

I spoke with the MFC footy shop today and he said that FOJ sponsor should be completed prior to the season starting. He did not know who it was but was confident. Hope he is right.

The Demon shop has about as much of an idea as you and me. They originally told me before Xmas, then late Jan, then late Feb, now before the start of the season.

I'll ask my mummy Billy huh.gif

( of course thats long distance to another dimension )

So when they announce a sponsor worth 1.9 + for the front..you owe me a beer !!...if they dont I owe you one. ( mines a pint by the way..start saving )

B59 - I took your advice and started saving the day you posted this. Instead of buying you a pint, would you prefer I become the joint major sponsor?

BTW, I'm getting thirsty...

I see you are trying to conflate the sponsor search with the coach search.

I don't know if they can be mirrored they way you have mirrored them.

On the coach front - I would wait to see what MM does unencumbered by coaching responsibilities.

On the sponsor front - I would push out the message that EW has come to the party to the tune that they have because they realise that the extra $500k they put in gives us a better chance to succeed and give a better platform for the sponsor. They should be nearing the $2m EW offer. But I wouldn't wait until March.

But you shouldn't undervalue your brand because it is for 3 years...

RPFC - 20 days to go until the start of March. We've had around 6 months to leverage off the EW increase in sponsorship, so hopefully CS is attacking this from a different angle now!

I've just gone into the MFC website and the 2012 sponsors are listed.

Interesting that Energy Watch is listed as a Joint Major Sponsor (with no-one)

Can I take a break from watching this space Chippy? It's starting to hurt my eyes...!!!

Haha, oh well DC! Look, don't get me worng, I'm far from perfect - just look at my Leadership Group prediction and my belief about $cully staying! But I have put up with a fair bit of crap on this topic, and some of it quite personal, but so far, I haven't been far off the mark!

Yeah, if we don't get a good deal soon I would be going and getting Oxfam or World Vision and giving them the badge for free for half the season, get some goodwill and publicity, keeping with our core values blah, blah, blah then having an extravagant 'Sponsor unveiling' where the company gives $250k to the charity it has taken over from, handshakes all around and... scene.

Like it - innovative thinking!

Interested to know from the faithful - if XYZ company came to us today and said "here's $3m, I want our logo on the FoJ for the next 3 years", would you take it?

wish theyd just go ask coke a cola or something, rich and a red logo so it wont look like there taking up half the jumper!!

Sponsorship committee = epic fail, which ever way you look at it. Should have been locked in 3 or 4 months ago. Successful clubs succeed at this. They also keep big sponsors for a longer period, as we have seen with Ford/Geelong and the like.

CS and his team need to lift their game, seem way out of their depth here. Potential sponsors love to communicate with high profile/famous footy people. CS himself falls well short here. Maybe we need some much higher profile people to help these battlers do their job with a bit more "get up and go".

Put very simply, if we got major sponsors when we should have, then hundreds, potentially thousands more new Jumpers with new sponsors names on them, would have been sold by now.

Why have our 2 major sponsors taken a back row seat, now? They were not getting enough value for their input!

C'mon Dees' employees, get on your proverbial bikes and just do it! Earn your bucks. Offer something tangible !

And for all the experts on here who have never actually worked in Sales/Marketing.............they are two completely different things but inseperably locked together at a Footy club. Timing is everything, repeat everything!

Red and Pink clash

I am pretty sure Bazza isn't privvy to sponsorship discussions so it really isn't our place to make a judgement over the price we want right now and the price we can easily get.

Am I reading between the lines to much when I think that you know that Nike will be our next major sponsor??? Hmm...

My above thought has as much merit as those thinking that a company that has a logo with red and blue as 2 of its major colours is going to sponsor us ie Bank of Melbourne. Sure, they may come on board, but it won't be becuase their logo is red and blue!

This is a forum RP, we are allowed to make as much unsubstantiated judgement as we want. If we weren't - we'd never here from you!!!

The difference, as you mention above, is between what we want, and what we can get. How much gap between the two is there? And a fairly serious question - how much can we easily get?

At the moment, what "we want" hasn't seen any ink on paper.

I'm champing at the bit to promote any new company that invests in the MFC. I generally become a non-paid sales and/or marketing person for such company, I've got enthusiasm, I've got excitment, I just don't have a company to promote on behalf of!

Still waiting is about to jump into a big vat of boiling fat. He has had enough peeps. Timing is everything he says. I agree. Let's work towards the best deal we can get. Not the first one that comes along. Timing is crucial.

  • PREVIEW: West Coast

Saturday’s election night game in Perth between the West Coast Eagles and Melbourne represents 18th vs 15th which makes it a tough decision as to which party to favour. The Eagles have yet to break the ice under their new coach in Andrew McQualter who is the second understudy in a row to confront Demon Coach Simon Goodwin who was also winless until a fortnight ago. On that basis, many punters might be considering to go with the donkey vote but I’ve been assigned with the task of helping readers to come to a considered opinion on this matter of vital importance across the nation. It was almost a year ago that I wrote a preview here of the Demons’ away game against the Eagles (under the name William from Waalitj because it was Indigenous Round).  I issued a warning that it was a danger game, based on my local knowledge that the home team were no longer easybeats and that they possessed a wunderkind generational player in Harley Reid who was capable of producing stellar performances playing among men a decade and more older than he.  At the time, the Eagles already had two wins off the back of a couple of the young man’s masterclasses and they had recently given the Bombers a scare straight after their Anzac Day blockbuster draw against the then reigning premiers.

  • NON-MFC: Round 08

Round 08 of the 2025 AFL Season kicks off on Thursday with a must-win game for the Bombers to stay in touch with the top eight, while the struggling Roos seek a morale-boosting upset. Friday sees the Saints desperate for a win as well if they are to stay in finals contention and their opponents the Dockers will be eager to crack in to the Top 8 with a win on the road. Saturday kicks off with a pivotal clash for both sides asthe Bulldogs look to solidify their top-eight spot, while Port seeks to shake their pretender tag. Then the Crows will be looking to steady their topsy turvy season against a resurgent Blues looking to make it 4 wins on the trot. On Election Night a Blockbuster will see the ladder-leading Pies take on the Cats, who are keen to bounce back after a narrow loss. On Sunday the Sydney Derby promises fireworks as the Giants aim to cement their top-eight status, while the Swans fight to keep their season alive. The Hawks, celebrating their centenary, will be looking to easily account for the Tigers who are desperate to halt their slide. The Round concludes on Sunday Night with a top end of the table QClash with significant ladder implications; both Queensland teams are in scintillating form. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • PREGAME: West Coast

The Demons hit the road in Round 8, heading to Perth to face the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium. With momentum building, the Dees will be aiming for a third straight victory to keep their season revival on course. Who comes in and who goes out?

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.
