GWS presser tomorrow to announce that James McDonald will be coming out of retirement in a playing/coaching role for the next 2 years.

hardly confirmed, looking at that twitter account it comes out of hibernation around trade week, and not always on the mark...

Did he play anywhere this year?

Surely would have had to if returning for 2 years.

Sports news first were spot on with the reliable piece on R Lyon too!

Half way through the year he started playing with Old Xavs in the VAFA. He didn't set the world on fire. Word has it that the standard of VAFA A Grade is somewhere between VFL 1st and VFL 2nds

WOW.....hope those hammies are up to it junior

James would be 35-36 now???

Highly unlikely, it is a very fast game now.

Junior comes to wagga every week as he buys livestock for someone. Looks in ripper shape and has all year.

Is he more than happy to talk about his Demon Days?? I hope he is not bitter at all.

Junior was a gun, a Blue Collar Gun, but all class.

I would have thought this is very unlikely. They're already in to Luke Power, Chad Cornes and Dean Brogan, I'm not sure how many more already retired players they can handle......

My old man talks to him a fair bit. Junior said he was disappointed to be let go as he had a fair bit of footy left in him but holds no grudges towards the dees.

Will be 35 next year (October)

Just heard from my mate whose brother is with GWS that Paul Wheatley, Matty Whelan and Byron Pickett will all be lining up with GWS next year.

Good, i want Junior to work back at the MFC before too long....He is one we do need to keep, but let him learn a bit from Sheeds first.

All Helps.

Byron pickett would be fat as.

Alistair Nicholson has been seen to be growing his beard back and ready to take on some gorillas for the Giants as well. Good Luck Nicho!

No chance.

Junior is up there with my favourite players to ever wear the Red and Blue but, sadly i watched him play at Elsternwick Park in the A Section prelim final on Sunday and he is very much past it now.

I hope he doesn't play, i want to remember him as a Melbourne great.

They are going to be putting him between the big sticks to try and stop the ball getting through. Expect him to see a lot of action.

Must be April 1st. Must check the calendar.

Or Google it!

I'm sure there are more important issues to discuss.

if by ripper shape you mean very slim/skinny, i'd say you'd be spot on. He has definitely lost a bit of weight from his playing days. He is very light on, too much so imo.

And they intend to get Natham Carroll as well.

No chance.

What if he played as a listed AFL player in they're seconds team as captain? With good money???

  • PREVIEW: St. Kilda

It seems like only yesterday that these two sides faced off against each other in the centre of the continent. It was when Melbourne was experiencing a rare period of success with five wins from its previous six matches including victories over both of last year’s grand finalists.  Well, it wasn’t yesterday but it was early last month and it remains etched clearly in the memory. The Saints were going through a slump and the predicted outcome of their encounter at TIO Traeger Park was a virtual no-brainer. A Melbourne victory and another step closer to a possible rise into finals contention. Something that was unthinkable after opening the season with five straight defeats.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.
