No. Sounds like you are familiar with it, though ...

think i'll leave that to bbo to explain

Odd coincidence! I was just reading down this thread thinking about that very matter when I found your post DC. However, I am yet to arrive at any "best fit" explanation so I'll sleep on it.

Perhaps Biffen may have ideas. Heavy/blunt/curious instruments are quite popular at the Gat.

Nicely done R+B. I was trying to come up with something like that.

BTW. And yes I am being a pedantic arse but what we are discussing, and certainly what is pictured, is correctly called a "jemmy" or ".prise bar". A crow bar is a different species.

We rough and tough rural types know about tools as we are constantly handling them.

wiki would seem to disagree with you - but i tend to agree with you at least on aussie common usage

Thanks, BBO. I bow to your superior knowledge of tools, decent or otherwise ... :-)

In my youth, my cousins on the farm would agree with BBO - the curvy item about 40cm long is a jemmy, and a crowbar is about six feet of straight black solid metal, with which one could do some really serious damage ...

But true to the imprecise and informal times in which we live, crowbar can refer to all kinds of similar instruments, it seems ....

Ok, you can go on with your lives now :-)

Must have missed that one, and I am not sure that I am sorry ...

being further pedantic, i would dispute jemmies are about 40cm

i inherited four from my father-in-law ranging in size from 25cm to about 100cm

as you were, carry on

BBO here a test of your skills.

Do you know which tool is the can opener?

The first season was a real laugh.

It was a between seasons filler which run for three season I think.

This Saturday is Emirate Stakes day, but more importantly it is number 12 in the countdown.

Looks like being very damp Redleg only mudrunners do you think?

AS to 12 left this year I seem to have low interest in the recruiting up till now and then drafting in twelve days time.

I think it is due to our complete inability to recruit any one who is more than average or who can play more than five or six games a year over the last decade.

I find myself firmly in the " yeh lets see how good he is after 15 rounds" group.

Even I think it is sad but a decade of disasters has me cynical about our recruiting.

Are you going to the races tomorrow Redleg?

I know you've been looking forward to it.

Actually no and I was invited to the Chairman's club by the Chairman of Coolmore.

Can't believe I declined.

My partner has Spurtonic in the Emirates.

I have a feeling the boy we take at 9 will be ok.
