Stumbled across this article on modern day journalism ... it's from the States but it's quite relevent (even though it might contravene the rules of this thread with the references to B$ !)

Journalisms New Mantra is Get It Now, Fix It Later

Journalists have always placed a priority on breaking news before the competition, but we had this saying: Get it first, but first, get it right.

The thinking goes like this: The public demands to know whats happening as its happening. Therefore, we, the information providers, must tell them what were finding out as were finding it out. If what were finding out turns out to be mistaken or misleading, well, we can always instantly correct it.

In other words, get it first, then fix it if its wrong.

Reminiscent of Caro Wilson's amazing revelations on tanking that had to have certain dates amended after publication for correctness. She even had us "tanking" in 2010.

Didn't we?

Didn't we?

IIRC, we were still an outside chance of making the finals with about three rounds to go but since the meaning of the word "tanking" is constantly being transformed, widened, embellished, twisted and contorted, I guess you're 100% right.

I remember the game against Hawthorn in Round 20 when Aaron Davey went down with a foot injury and we lost by only 21 points despite being murdered by the umpires. Yep, we tanked that so we couldn't make finals.

Thought so.

Next time we win by 10 goals, Caro will say that we tanked by not winining by 15 ... I anticipate that in 2015 the AFL will open a year-long investigation into the enormous tank that was our 2012 season, and they will conclude something like "The Dees tanked beautifully for the first nine rounds, apart from a slight wobble against St Kilda, but then really screwed things up against Essendon. After that, things went to plan, even when being out-tanked twice by GWS who are by definition above suspicion" B)

you could always take up religion redleg.....lots happening....even lots of legal work...lol

I have already taken up religion, I have been praying for a good outcome in the tanking saga.

There's a plum job coming up in Rome.

I went out with a lovely Italian girl when i was younger and learned some italian. Maybe I should apply, I could hack people kissing my feet.

what about kissing your ring. surely you would draw a line at that

I must confess. It does become a habit.

Nun of that.

Wears the soap.

Wash your mouth out.

Suggestion. Innuendo. Smut. It doesn't take long for a conversation to go downhill on this site. I think this is what the Good Samaritans referred to as an "occasion of sin". I'm out of here before, as a penance, I have to give myself a good flogging

Some on here would argue that was merely a fait accompli.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
