I can see us resting a few players in the opening NAB cup and playing all of the rookies that are fit.

I hope not Redleg I would like to see win a few games.

On top of my desire to start the season well is the need to get the max. number of members on board.

To achieve this we need some good results in the Nab cup.

Particulary the first week.

Only 2 good results will do.

Black Caviar, what can you say? Possibly the best this country has produced. Untouched and runs them off their feet. I feel privileged to have seen her run. Wow. I just feel so excited and it gives me hope of getting another good horse one day, one that I can think about all day, in between thinking about my grand daughter and the MFC.

Truly was awesome, wasn't it ? Privileged to see such a racehorse just so dominant against very good horses. Looks as though Moody will enter her in the Lightning Stakes (1000m) this weekend, before the Futurity the week after (back to 1400m). She'll have 20 wins on end before she leaves the country for her stint overseas.

Brained them over 1400m on Saturday. Makes you wonder if she can go 2040m around MV.

Glen Boss thinks so.

There is a baby possum on my window ledge staring at me as I write this. I am going to give him an offer to go to Blacktown and join GWS. I hear the possums do really well up there.

On BC, I find it amazing that she's so quick that she's actually pulled up by the jockey so that she 'only' wins by a few lengths.

Oh, and the fact that her win was the slowest Orr Stakes time in a few years (as reported on the weekend).

We are nearly there. Nab cup starts this week. Fox Footy too. Dees Intra club friday. Discussion on the game straight after on Demonland. Here we go again.

How long to the national draft?

About 9 months. I can't find the date. May not be fixed yet. Wonder if we will activate our picks. I think we will.

So do I.

The countdown clock to the draft that I created for WJ/Redleg is somewhere on this thread that is 43 pages long...

There will be no draft countdown until after the season is over.

After hearing Neeld yesterday Redleg I think you are right.

The things he said suggested to me that for the Dees the nab cup was more about testing plans and players than winning.

So on that basis I thinks rounds 2 and 3 will be wipe outs.

The pain could start in early march this year.

You have given up earlier than usual this year O.D.

As Homer once said

"If you can't win-don't try"

Simpson that is.

Not the author of the Illiad .

This thing has got to be coming close to the longest thread in DL history, surely!

I mean, there's more posts than there were cents in the price of bananas...

Other clubs will be in the same boat as us. Pies in round 2 might also be fairly under strength. This format is much better and fairer as you get to play in front of your fans a couple of teams on decnt grounds and you can try things out. This way you go all the way until the GF at least in the NAB cup and you can see it live or at least on TV. Don't think we really care where we finish as long as we get used to the game plan and try out a few new players.

I am used to pain following the Dees it comes with the territory.

Have not given up yet wyl.

Amongst all the extreme positivity on Demonland I cannot help but try and inject a bit of realism ( i think I just made up that word )

It would pay us all to remember this is basically the same lot that gave us such a wonderful 2011.

They are trying to play a new style and a lot in different positions and as everyone reminds me they are mostly kids who need more games.

Under those conditions it is not unrealistic to expect some poor performances at the start of 2012.

Playing Collingwood and Hawthorn when you are trying to learn something new looks like very hard work to me.

Both belted us last year when we supposedly knew what we were doing.

The pies under strength is probably still way above the dees in early March.

Time will tell Redleg just don't get to far ahead of ourselves.

I smell " we are learning a new system and it takes time" in the air.

Which may be 100% correct I just do not have a good vibe after hearing Neeld yesterday.

You were at the Breakfast O.D.??

Just found my original Robbie Flower cloth patch-we can't fail now .

No, too rich for me wyl just from what I have picked up during Neeld's last couple of public mutterings.

Hey I might be adding 2 and 2 and getting 5,

it is just my reading of the situation.

Who cares about the talk, Bailey did plenty of that. I care about how we play.

Who cares about intraclub, BC racing in the Lightning this weekend...this is for #19 yes Redleg? Or is this #20 and the record?

Nineteen. But don't let on to the Biffenator. He's a big Sepoy fan. Apparently according to Biffen, Black Caviar has been avoiding Sepoy. If you want to talk racing or BC - there is a Black Caviar thread in Sports. Redleg, you might want to add some input on BC.

Will be too busy watching 2 of mine go around today Le Beau Cheval at 2.18 at Goulburn and Noble Game at 8.45 at Moonee Valley and then sunday No Dispute 4.12 at Bendigo. Hopefully they all go well.

BTW go like "lightning" BC.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Western Bulldogs

The Dogs reigned supreme in 2018 with an inaugural AFLW premiership cup and the Demons matched this feat by winning the cup as the Season 7 2022 champions.Meggs wasn’t born when the Doggies won their first VFL premiership cup against the Demons in 1954. Covid prevented many Demons fans from legally witnessing the victorious 2021 AFL Grand Final cup performance between the Demons and the Bulldogs, but we all grin when remembering those magnificent seven third quarter goals.

  • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

Hawthorn and Melbourne. Two teams with impressive form from last week but with seasons that are travelling on different trajectories meet in Saturday’s twilight game for what could well be the most intriguing contest of the AFL’s penultimate round. Sadly, the game has been relegated to that unappealing time slot in the weekend when Melburnians are typically preoccupied with activities other than football. It falls between the morning's shopping, afternoon sport and recreation, and Saturday night fever. A time usually reserved for relatively insignificant events but this one is not a nothingburger for either of the clubs or their fans.

Ten seasons. Eighteen teams. With the young talent pathway finally fully connected, Women’s Australian Rules football is building momentum and Season 2025 promises to be the best yet. In advance of Season 10, the AFL leadership has engaged in candid discussions with all clubs regarding strategies to boost attendance and expand fan bases. Concerningly, average attendances in 2024 were 2,660 fans per match, with the women’s game incurring an annual loss of approximately $50 million.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.

The Demons return to the MCG this time as the visiting team where they get another opportunity to put a dent into a team's top 8 placing when they take on the Hawks on Saturday afternoon. Who comes in and who goes out?
