Losing our first pick in the draft is going to make guessing who we might get impossible.

I'm 98% sure you are correct

It's sure to make for a long thread on Demonland.

I can see someone changing the name of the thread to the Not the Draft Thread. Don't want to give my age away, but while on Demonland, I have 70's Disco Hits on You Tube in the background. I am bouncing around on the chair and can hardly type straight. Wonder if I have any flairs in the cupboard, platform shoes and a bright shirt.

Not sure where they got an old photo of my father

But now I will have to go back and get it fixed.

Oh please I have just got over the pain of 2011 season.

Pretty Woman was No.1 in 64

Every time I hear that song the GF comes back to me

Heard it on the radio on the way down from the country That and "Have I the Right" by the honeycombs.

Drove home that night and thought this glory will go on forever.

Oh well I had a few good months till the 65 season got going.

Ahh ... we have more in common than just our advancing years, a drop or two of good red and our unconditional love for the Dees.

I was dating two lovelies in '64 (hello Maureen and Jane). Sadly, they disappeared from the radar in '65 much like the Dees. It was a sh!t of a year in many ways, but I'm thankful that mini-skirts arrived a couple of years later, the good music continued for another decade, and the Dees are once again on the march. Ahhh!

My god two at once!

One at a time for me was good fishing.

Yes Mrs OD looked very good in a mini back then.

Actually she is probably holding up better than me.

can we go the distance deeoldfart?

I hope so

Carn the Dees

PS Over the last 5 years October and November have been the best months of the year.

We have not lost a game and expectation rises with Drafts etc.

Bit of trivia for you. The Homecombs drummer was a girl and her brother was the lead singer. Very few great female drummers over the years. The best IMO was Cindy Blackman in Lenny Kravitz's band who was the driving force behind " are you gonna go my way". She could really pound the skins.

'65 was a bad year for the Demons as we all know, even the youngsters have done there reading!

But a fantastic year for the Beatles with "Rubber Soul"

The Rolling Stones with "Out of Our Heads" (USA Version of course!!)

Bob Dylan with "Bringing it All Back Home" & "Highway 61 Revisited" Bob was on a roll Big Time...

& The Who smashed out the "My Generation" Album....

What a year for Record Player Sales....1965..& Mini skirts!!!

In My Humble Opinion WYL I always enjoyed "The Magic Bus" a lot more than MG.

Arh great years for music even if the Dees were crap.

Yes Redleg I clearly remember the girl drummer.

Occasionly hear them on 1278.

You can see them on you tube if you are feeling nostalgic.

Thank you I will go looking, do they still exist as a band?

PS Just had a look, well I forgot how conservative they looked.

Time changes everything

and don't forget Bobbie and Laurie........not really my cup-o-tea though

Hitchhiker.........

I preferred "Hitch Hike" of "Out of Our Heads actually....Side 1 Track 2.

Hey O D i reckon the Who were Fantastic, and hit their Zenith in 1973 with the Double Album Epic "Quadrophenia"

I still give it a good listen today...they were all brilliant on that one..

But yes "The Who Sell Out" with Magic Bus in '67 is worth finding on Youtube

All those great Jingles they wrote for Radio London....(The Boat that Rocked)

"I belong with you", great song.

I remember going with a few mates to a dance called Penthouse in North Road, Ormond when the great Laurie Allen and Bobby Bright were on the bill.

It was 1964 and the pair were popular artists on the The Go!! Show as well as a couple of popular music programmes emanating from the Channel 2 studios at Ripponlea.

To use the modern vernacular, the night of the dance was "massive". Hundreds of screaming young girls turned up and they outnumbered us males by 5:1. We thought, "how good is this?"

Problem was that when Bobby & Laurie were done, so were the chicks. For the rest of the night the males outnumbered the females 5:1 and alas, the three shillings spent on entry went down the toilet.

On reflection, it was a pretty good time. The Demons were on a roll,  virtually invincible and on our way to a premiership flag, we could safely hitchhike wherever we wanted to go and we were young and free.

What a time it was!

  • REPORT: Collingwood

The media focus on the fiery interaction between Max Gawn and Steven May at the end of the game was unfortunate because it took away the gloss from Melbourne’s performance in winning almost everywhere but on the scoreboard in its Kings Birthday clash with Collingwood at the MCG. It was a real battle reminiscent of the good old days when the rivalry between the two clubs was at its height and a fitting contest to celebrate the 2025 Australian of the Year, Neale Daniher and his superb work to bring the campaign to raise funds for motor neurone disease awareness to the forefront. Notwithstanding the fact that the Magpies snatched a one point victory from his old club, Daniher would be proud of the fact that his Demons fought tooth and nail to win the keenly contested game in front of 77,761 fans.

  • POSTGAME: Collingwood

Despite effectively playing against four extra opponents, the Dees controlled much of the match. However, their inaccuracy in front of goal and inability to convert dominance in clearances and inside 50s ultimately cost them dearly, falling to a heartbreaking one-point loss on King’s Birthday.
